Over the past five years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has given many characters multiple opportunities, but Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight hasn’t had that same chance. Isaac debuted as Marc Spector, Steven Knight, and Jake Lockley in his own six-episode Disney+ series in 2022, successfully bringing the complex character and his origins – linked to the Egyptian moon god Khonshu – to life. Although the series ended with a surprising development – Khonshu allowing Marc and Steven to separate – Moon Knight’s future within the MCU remains uncertain.
Despite its popularity, Moon Knight hasn’t been picked up for another season. Oscar Isaac has only reprised his role once in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, providing the voice for the character in an episode of What If…? Season 3 in 2024. There’s been talk of a Marvel movie featuring the Midnight Sons – a team of supernatural heroes that often includes Moon Knight – but Marvel Studios hasn’t officially announced any plans. Recently, Isaac shared some news about the potential status of this project.

He confirmed discussions about the project are ongoing and emphasized the need to approach the story with seriousness, despite its fantastical comic book origins. Isaac explained that the narrative tackles genuinely difficult and relatable themes.
The recent discussion about ‘Midnight Sons’ touched on how seriously we’re approaching the subject matter. While ‘fragile’ isn’t quite the right description, the tone is crucial because we’re dealing with very real and difficult themes. Even though it’s a comic book, it’s important to treat these issues with respect, and the story is attempting to balance that seriousness with its more fantastical elements.
Horowitz suggested Ryan Gosling, who has been Oscar-nominated, for the role of Ghost Rider – a casting both he and Gosling have said they’d love to see. Isaac enthusiastically agreed, saying, “Yes! Let’s make that happen – it’s a perfect fit.”
