Original Star Wars trilogy to get new UK streaming home for December
As a gamer with a heart full of nostalgia and a shelf overflowing with action figures from the original trilogy, this news has sent me into orbit! The ITV2 streaming deal for the classic Star Wars films is like finding an old R2-D2 under my bed – unexpected, but incredibly welcome.
The original Star Wars trilogy has found a new UK streaming home for December.
It has been announced that “Star Wars: A New Hope,” “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back,” and “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi” will broadcast on ITV2, with streaming options available on ITVX for catch-up viewing throughout December.
2016’s “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” can also be streamed on ITV2, followed by its move to ITVX.
1977 marked the commencement of the Star Wars saga, starting with A New Hope. Here, we follow the journey of Mark Hamill’s character, Luke Skywalker, a young man just embarking on his Jedi education under Obi-Wan Kenobi. Together, they set out on a daring adventure to free Princess Leia, a Rebel leader, from the grip of Darth Vader and the Imperial forces.
1980 saw the release of the sequel, titled “The Empire Strikes Back.” In this installment, Luke embarks on a journey to the planet Dagobah to learn from Jedi Master Yoda following the Rebellion’s defeat at Hoth. Later, he encounters Darth Vader and uncovers a startling revelation about his ancestry.
1983 marked the end of the grand tale with “Return of the Jedi,” where the Rebellion strikes back against the Empire’s latest Death Star, and Luke engages in a decisive battle with Darth Vader, culminating in a confrontation with the Emperor.
The epic saga of “Star Wars” was rekindled through a prequel trilogy that started in 1999, followed by a sequel trilogy from 2015 onwards. Additionally, the universe has grown with standalone movies such as “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” released in 2016, and spin-off TV series like “The Mandalorian” and “Ahsoka.
Just prior to the happenings depicted in “A New Hope,” the film “Rogue One” narrates the story of an unconventional team coming together for a daring operation: the acquisition of blueprints for the Death Star.
It’s been confirmed that a fresh Star Wars trilogy is on the way, helmed by director and producer Simon Kinberg, who is known for his work on the X-Men series.
Matt Kinberg is set to pen and create a trilogy of films within the Star Wars galaxy, but it’s not yet determined where these movies will fall in the storyline chronology.
You can stream “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” and the entire Skywalker Saga on Disney+. If you prefer a physical copy, you can purchase it on DVD, Blu-ray, or even 4K versions.
