Only 8 Altcoins Launched Since 2024 are Profitable

Most new altcoins that started in 2024 have resulted in losses for those who bought them on the first day. According to data from CryptoRank as of July 21st, only 8 out of 113 are currently trading at a price higher than when they were initially launched.

This data includes only cryptocurrencies currently worth over $100 million. However, even among these larger coins, the typical one has lost 95.7% of its value since it first launched.

Why Most Altcoins Launched Since 2024 Fell Below TGE Price

This report follows up on a December warning about the crypto market. Memento Research found that most new cryptocurrency projects launching in 2025 – 84.7%, or 100 out of 118 tokens – were trading below their initial listing price. The study also showed that the median value of these projects had fallen significantly, dropping 71% since they first launched.

The crypto market hasn’t recovered. According to CryptoRank’s report for the second quarter, most of the 100 largest cryptocurrencies lost value in June – specifically, 82.1% of them. All major types of crypto tokens also experienced median losses during that time.

These figures actually represent a much more concerning situation. The data only includes projects currently valued at over $100 million. Many smaller ventures failed and weren’t even included in this count.

New cryptocurrencies are struggling to maintain their value for a couple of key reasons. First, many were initially released at unrealistically high prices. Second, pre-planned releases of additional tokens created an oversupply that investors weren’t interested in buying.

Worldcoin (WLD) is demonstrating just how much value a cryptocurrency can lose. Despite anticipation surrounding a potential investment product similar to an ETF by Grayscale, this once highly-promoted launch of 2024 has plummeted 97% from its highest price.

Hyperliquid Leads the Few Survivors Still in Profit

As a crypto investor, I’m really watching Hyperliquid (HYPE) right now. It’s been an incredible run since they airdropped the token in November 2024 – up over 1500%! The price is currently around $61.52, and with a market cap of $13.7 billion, it’s actually become one of the top ten biggest cryptocurrencies out there.

HYPE stands out because its platform for perpetual contracts generates actual fees, which are then used to buy back and reduce the circulating supply of HYPE tokens. Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that track HYPE also became available in May. However, the token’s current price is roughly 20% lower than its peak of $76.70 reached in June.

I’ve been watching Ondo (ONDO), and it’s up over 100% since launch – mainly because people are excited about tokenized US Treasuries. But even with those gains, it’s still down quite a bit from its high last December, around 81% below $2.14. It’s a good reminder that just being ‘in the green’ doesn’t mean everything is safe; things can always turn south quickly in this market.

EverValue Coin (EVA), a digital token built on Arbitrum and increasingly supported by Bitcoin, saw a price increase of 20.3%. Midnight Network (NIGHT), a privacy-focused blockchain connected to Cardano, rose by 16.5%. CryptoRank didn’t disclose the identities of the remaining top-performing cryptocurrencies.

Since the beginning of 2024, very few newly launched cryptocurrencies have held their initial value. CryptoRank data shows that out of 113 tokens launched with market caps now exceeding $100 million, only 7.1% – or 8 tokens – are still trading above their price at the time of their initial exchange offering (TGE).

The main takeaway is clear: initial excitement doesn’t last, but consistent value does. Those who succeed will be the ones generating income, addressing genuine needs, or owning tangible things. The upcoming launches will reveal who truly understood this lesson.
