Warning! This list contains some spoilers for the original One Piece manga.
Season 2 of One Piece introduces a lot of new characters alongside some familiar faces. Here’s a ranking of the 10 strongest characters from the season. With the expansive world of One Piece, it’s no surprise the cast grew significantly in season 2, including members of the villainous Baroque Works organization and new friends and allies for the Straw Hat crew.
By the end of the second season of One Piece, the Straw Hat Pirates had expanded their crew. Tony Tony Chopper officially became their doctor, and Nefertari Vivi decided to travel with them until her home kingdom of Alabasta was safe.
This part of the story sets the stage for season 3 of One Piece, promising to introduce important and strong new characters from across the Grand Line. It’s often hard to accurately judge just how powerful these characters are within the One Piece universe, though.
The One Piece manga and anime feature incredibly powerful characters, but the live-action series hasn’t fully showcased that strength yet. While characters like Mihawk and Gold Roger are known to be strong within the One Piece story, they aren’t currently part of the events happening in the show. Here’s a list of the 10 most powerful characters as they appear in the current season’s storyline.
10. Sanji
After Luffy, Sanji is generally considered the strongest fighter among the Straw Hat Pirates. While Nami and Usopp are capable, Sanji and Zoro are clearly the crew’s two most powerful close-combat fighters. Because of this, Sanji ranks as the tenth-strongest character in One Piece season 2.
Sanji is a powerful fighter who skillfully uses his legs to defeat tough opponents. He’s proven himself against enemies like Mr. 13, Miss Friday, Chess, and Kuromarimo, who were Wapol’s strongest protectors. Based on what we’ve seen in the manga, Sanji is expected to become even more powerful as the story continues.
In the live-action adaptation, Sanji demonstrated incredible strength by nearly breaking a T. rex’s neck with a single kick, showcasing his power within the world of One Piece.
9. Nico Robin (Miss All Sunday)
via Netflix
Nico Robin is a key villain introduced in the second season of One Piece, serving as the second-in-command of the Baroque Works organization. The live-action One Piece series portrays her as a strong and dangerous opponent. Her abilities come from the Flower-Flower Devil Fruit, which lets her create copies of her body parts to fight and overcome her enemies.
Nico Robin’s Devil Fruit powers are incredibly strong, capable of taking down entire fortresses of Marines and easily disabling the powerful Straw Hat Pirates. However, outside of her abilities, she isn’t a particularly skilled fighter, which prevents her from ranking higher on this list.
The same could be argued about Nami, but Netflix’s One Piece still altered the source material to portray her as stronger. It’s currently unknown if they will do the same with Nico Robin later on.
Currently, her Devil Fruit abilities place her ninth among the most powerful characters in One Piece. She could rank even higher, but her limited combat skills hold her back.
8. Zoro
Roronoa Zoro is often considered the strongest fighter in the Straw Hat Pirates, aside from Luffy himself. He’s determined to become the world’s greatest swordsman, and he’s consistently demonstrating his skill and progress, especially when facing tough opponents like Mihawk. A prime example of his strength is when he single-handedly battled 100 enemies from Baroque Works in season 2, episode 3 of One Piece – a feat that easily earns him a spot on this list.
| Straw Hat Pirates | Role |
|---|---|
| Monkey D. Luffy | Captain |
| Nami | Navigator |
| Usopp | Sharpshooter |
| Sanji | Cook |
| Zoro | First Mate |
| Tony Tony Chopper | Medic |
Zoro demonstrated exceptional fighting skills, even surpassing Sanji’s, who would likely have more difficulty in a similar situation. Without considering Devil Fruit abilities, Zoro would almost certainly defeat Nico Robin. Besides Luffy, the Netflix series One Piece clearly establishes Zoro as the Straw Hat Pirates’ strongest fighter and primary protector.
7. Luffy
Next up is Monkey D. Luffy, the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates. His Devil Fruit powers give him a rubbery body, which makes him incredibly adaptable in battle. He can handle multiple opponents, no matter what abilities they have, and is generally tougher to injure than the rest of his crew.
Luffy’s Gum-Gum Fruit powers allow him to fight even the toughest villains we’ve seen in the live-action One Piece so far, including characters like Arlong, Buggy, Wapol, and members of Baroque Works. However, he’s still developing his abilities and has potential to become even stronger as the Netflix series progresses.
Luffy’s full potential hasn’t been shown in the manga and anime yet, and he still has some very powerful enemies to defeat, including some of those ranked higher on this list. Because of this, he currently ranks as the seventh-strongest character in One Piece season 2.
6. Smoker
Smoker is a powerful enemy in Netflix’s One Piece that Luffy hasn’t defeated yet, making him a significant threat – even stronger than the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates. Their fight in season 2, episode 1 clearly showed Smoker’s strength, as Luffy struggled during the encounter.
Smoker’s Devil Fruit powers give him strong attacks, but his ability to turn into smoke also makes him incredibly difficult to hit. Without help from another character in One Piece, he likely would have defeated Luffy.
Considering Smoker easily beat multiple agents from Baroque Works and his high rank—sixth-highest—within the Marines, it makes sense to consider him the sixth-strongest character in One Piece season 2.
5. Crocodile (Mr. 0)
Crocodile is a powerful enemy Luffy hasn’t fought yet in One Piece. He’s considered the fifth-strongest character in the show’s second season. As one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea and the hidden leader of Baroque Works, Crocodile has access to a lot of power and people, making him a major threat in the Grand Line.
Crocodile’s Devil Fruit power significantly enhances his strength. Similar to how Smoker turns into smoke, Crocodile can transform into sand, making him incredibly durable. He can also use this ability offensively, creating powerful sandstorms and even dehydrating living things.
Crocodile was once a hugely dangerous pirate with a bounty of 81 million berries, but the World Government took it away. Considering where the story is now, he’s more infamous than many current pirates, including Nico Robin, and even stronger than Sanji and Zoro, all of whom she surpassed with her Devil Fruit abilities.
Crocodile is considered a more powerful and respected pirate than many Marine officers, like Smoker, and Luffy hasn’t even fought him yet. This firmly establishes Crocodile as a major threat, and the upcoming third season of One Piece will showcase his strength and power.
4. Dorry & Brogy
Dorry and Brogy are massive giants who appear on Little Garden in season 2 of One Piece. They’re physically much stronger than anyone else on this list – it’s hard to picture characters like Zoro, Sanji, Nico Robin, Crocodile, Smoker, or even Luffy being able to defeat them in a straight-up strength contest, no matter their skills or Devil Fruit abilities.
The Baroque Works agents were able to overcome the giants, but they had to rely on deception to do so. Otherwise, Dorry and Brogy would have easily defeated them, both in terms of power and sheer size. As they appeared more in the Elbaph Arc of the One Piece manga, they only grew stronger.
I was honestly shocked to see the giants take down that giant goldfish with just brute force – Luffy didn’t seem capable of that kind of attack beforehand! And with 100 million berry bounties each, it’s pretty clear the World Government sees them as bigger threats than Luffy, or even Crocodile. It really puts their strength into perspective.
3. Sabo
Sabo is a puzzling character who made a very quick, almost hidden appearance in season 2 of One Piece. Because of this brief cameo – he’s only seen walking away from Dragon in episode 1 – he’s often overlooked and would likely be last on any list of season 2 characters.
As the story progresses in the manga, it becomes evident just how powerful Sabo is. He’s Dragon’s second-in-command in the Revolutionary Army and possesses the rare Fire-Fire Fruit ability. While we haven’t seen this fully depicted in the live-action series yet, nor his more intense battles from the manga, Sabo is clearly one of the strongest characters in One Piece, and his full potential remains to be revealed.
2. Garp
As a fan, it’s clear Garp is a seriously powerful Marine – he’s a Vice Admiral, which automatically puts him above someone like Smoker in the One Piece world. And the live-action series really showed that off! We saw him casually toss around cannonballs with unbelievable strength, and he even beat Luffy pretty easily, which is amazing considering how strong Luffy is.
Many fans believe Garp is strong enough to be a Marine Admiral, reflecting the high regard others have for his abilities. While the Netflix live-action series One Piece hasn’t fully demonstrated Garp’s power yet, it’s offered clues through references to his history with Gol D. Roger and events like the battle at God Valley.
Based on what we know from the original One Piece story, only one character is stronger than Garp.
1. Dragon
Dragon is the enigmatic leader of the Revolutionary Army. He trained Sabo and quickly placed him in a high-ranking position, above even his second-in-command. In One Piece season 2, episode 1, Dragon easily defeated Smoker after Smoker had just lost to Luffy, demonstrating why Dragon is considered so powerful and ranks above them both.
Garp sees Dragon as the greatest threat to the World Government, placing them as equals in terms of power. The reasons Dragon is considered stronger than Garp are primarily found in the original One Piece manga.
It’s a common theme in manga that children become stronger than their parents, and Dragon, the son of Garp, seems to fit that pattern – he’s likely more powerful. Interestingly, despite the story being almost 1200 chapters long, we haven’t actually seen Dragon fight yet. This suggests he’s incredibly strong, and his full power will be revealed in the final part of the series.
Considering everything we know about him, including the speculation that he possesses a Devil Fruit, Dragon is potentially the strongest character in the entire One Piece series, and is certainly the most powerful one shown in season 2 of the Netflix adaptation.
