One of Avowed’s most frustrating features just got a fix in 1.4 update
4 update for “Avowed” is now available across all platforms, resolving an issue that has been a source of frustration for me and numerous gamers. Couldn’t be more timely!
The latest update, which also unveils our plans for the next few months with plenty of fresh content ahead, has been released. While I’m looking forward to discussing more about that (details later), it’s worth noting that version 1.4 has significantly improved how the “fog of war” functioned in the game previously. This improvement, in my opinion, is one of the best fixes Obsidian could have incorporated into any patch, and I’m relieved that this issue has been resolved promptly.
Avowed’s fog of war will no longer frustrate players post 1.4 update
In this update (Version 1.4), you will see numerous modifications that have already been implemented. Here’s a brief summary from the update log.
- Once most of a map’s accessible areas are explored, the fog of war will fully clear.
In my gaming experience, I’ve often found myself stumbling upon unexplored territories shrouded in mystery due to the persistent “fog of war.” This enigma persisted even when I was exploring accessible areas. It was a significant hindrance, as vividly discussed in a Reddit thread. The map would only reveal snippets of areas of interest, but it failed to disclose the route, which was often obstructed by obstacles such as walls, cliffs, or other impediments.
On numerous occasions, I’ve spent quite some time, sometimes even longer than needed, attempting to access these areas, only to discover later that they were unreachable. If the veil of uncertainty covering those inaccessible zones hadn’t existed, I would have known their unreachability from the start.
Avowed 2025 roadmap
Despite the shifting landscape of the ongoing conflict sparking enthusiasm to join the action, there’s much more to anticipate. Our plans are organized into three distinct seasons – Spring, Summer, and Autumn. The details for the Spring 2025 upgrade have already been made accessible.
Spring 2025
- Arachnophobia Safe Mode
- Mouse and Keyboard support for Xbox
- Fog of War Improvements
- More Gold and Crafting materials
- Soul Pods will now dispel illusions
- Unique gear improvements
Summer 2025
- Cooking and Crafting improvements
- New NPC abilities and behaviors
- New active and passive abilities
- New, unique weapons and armor
- Custom Map makers
Fall 2025
- New Game Plus
- Photo mode
- New weapon type
- Changing appearances in the world
- New character presets
- More Godlike feature presets
If you’ve observed the features mentioned, the Avowed map will keep advancing. Many users have been annoyed by not being able to add custom markers on the map, but this issue should be resolved with the Summer 2025 update. Currently, there’s no specific release date, but it’s expected to roll out sometime between July and August, assuming that a Fall update is also planned.
