One Month After Eleven’s Sacrifice, Netflix All But Confirms Another Stranger Things Death

The upcoming Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 will add at least two new characters to the show’s already large ensemble, suggesting that more characters will likely die. The recent finale of Stranger Things sparked mixed reactions, particularly regarding the uncertain fate of Eleven.

Despite generally positive reactions, some viewers were very unhappy with the finale, leading to the spread of a conspiracy theory online called #ConformityGate. This quickly debunked theory claimed a completely new finale was being filmed to change the fates of all the main characters.

Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 Has At Least Two New Characters

It’s understandable why some fans wished the show had a different ending. Eleven appeared to die, and many other characters had uninspired, predictable conclusions. While having a large cast made it difficult to give everyone a satisfying story, most character journeys felt unfinished, with only a few, like Jonathan’s in the finale, receiving proper closure.

The trailer for the new Netflix animated series, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, suggests it won’t address the problems some viewers have with the original show. Taking place between seasons 2 and 3, the series follows Dustin, Mike, El, Lucas, and Max as they fight monsters in Hawkins, and it also introduces two new characters.

Tales From ’85’s New Characters Have To Be Written Out Of The Story Somehow

The trailer features Steve’s potential love interest, Natalie, as well as Nikki Baxter. While it’s hard to spot Nikki in the trailer itself, we already knew she’d be appearing in the new series before the trailer was released.

It might not matter if Nikki is in the trailer or not. Characters shown in stories that take place between the main events often face a high chance of death, which neatly explains why they aren’t present in the main storyline.

Netflix Can Only Do So Many Stranger Things Prequels And In-Betweequels

Season 5 of Stranger Things didn’t include Dustin’s girlfriend, Suzie, which raises questions about her role in the show. It’s possible the core group only connects with her occasionally, between seasons, and she might have left Hawkins before the events of season 3. Still, it’s strange that none of the characters ever talk about her again.

To avoid contradicting established storylines from the original series, Netflix should be careful about how many prequel or interquel stories it adds to the Stranger Things universe. With The First Shadow and Tales From ’85 already in development, any future spinoffs should introduce completely new characters rather than revisiting familiar events.
