Oh no, I’ve been playing a tutorial for 55 hours: Elden Ring Nightreign’s Everdark Sovereigns aren’t just a health and damage boost, the Gaping Jaw’s got all-new mechanics to lay us flat
In the realm of Elden Ring Nightreign, I’d been cruising with my trusty Onion Bro raiders, maintaining a steady pace, threading through the gloom towards the Everdark’s twisted version of the Gaping Jaw. Or if you fancy it, Adel, Baron of Night. I’d found a groove in my gaming sessions, and the terrors had started to feel routine. But as a wise voice from a shadowy lair once echoed: Arrogance can be a sneaky and deadly foe.
1. After demolishing the first one, we followed it up with the second. We made our entrance via the main gate, encountered a desert I recognized – and lo and behold, Adel made his appearance by performing an elbow drop from the top rope onto me! Later, he conjured a whirlwind.
2. The first one bit the dust, and the second went down next. We pushed our way in through the main gate, saw a desert that looked familiar – and who should appear but Adel? He introduced himself by executing an elbow drop from the top rope on me! Afterwards, he conjured up a tornado.
3. The first one was destroyed, and then we took down the second. We entered through the main gate, found myself in a desert I knew – and there was Adel, greeting me with an elbow drop from the top rope! Subsequently, he produced a twister.
4. The first one fell, and the second followed suit. We entered via the main gate, came across a desert I remembered – and who do you know but Adel? He greeted me by dropping an elbow on me from the top rope, and then summoned a tornado!
5. After taking down the initial one, we moved on to the second. We made our entrance at the main gate, found myself in a desert that felt familiar – only for Adel to show up and drop an elbow on me from the top rope as a greeting! Then he summoned a tornado.
6. The first went down, and we followed with the second. We entered through the main gate, came across a desert that took me back – and who should I meet but Adel? He greeted me by performing an elbow drop from the top rope onto me, and then raised a tornado.
After spending what felt like minutes wearing down his health and repeatedly administering poison whenever possible, a chilling realization struck me. Oh dear, it seems I’ve been going through a lengthy, 55-hour training session.
If you haven’t heard, Elden Ring Nightreign released a new update yesterday, introducing a “Everdark” variant of one of its boss battles, Adel, the Night Baron. This is similar to the arch-tempered monsters in Monster Hunter; they are more powerful versions of their previous forms.
Initially, I thought encountering death for the first time would merely result in severe health issues and damage. However, I was mistaken as Adel has an entirely new arsenal of abilities to deal with. For instance, he can generate a tornado that creates its own storm, requiring you to leap over its walls using slipstreams to avoid getting trapped. Furthermore, starting from phase two, he unleashes aftershocks, which can heal him if he manages to grab you in his mouth. To make matters worse, in a terrifying instance reminiscent of Dragon Ball Z, Adel has the ability for instant transmission.
I don’t know who taught this guy to wavedash but I assume they’re out to get me, personally.
Not everyone is the only one feeling a mix of mortified exhilaration. On the game’s subreddit, a player expressed it as ‘They said they’d give us a tough challenge, but here you go,’ in a thread aptly titled ‘This… just seems like a lot, man.’ Some players are following the tradition of ‘Souls’ games by telling others to ‘improve your skills.’ And indeed, this isn’t an impossible feat; Oroboro has already soloed this player, so it’s not an unreachable mountain.
After I get past my initial apprehension, I’m confident I’ll manage to secure a hold on things. To be honest, I squandered quite a few flasks before I figured out that what I was seeing wasn’t a deadly pillar of fire but rather a slipstream. However, this is merely a prelude. As per the latest updates, we’ll have to deal with enhanced versions of the Sentient Pest and the Darkdrift Knight in the upcoming battles. So, everyone, prepare for a long night ahead – the main battle is about to commence!
