Ocarina of Time Remake Quietly Confirmed By Nintendo in New Update

There’s been a lot of talk among fans about a possible remake of Ocarina of Time, and it looks like those rumors are true. Nintendo has subtly confirmed they’re working on a remake of what many consider their greatest game.

Ocarina of Time is a hugely influential game, and remaking it would be a fantastic way for Nintendo to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Zelda series. Although the Nintendo 64 original was previously remade for the 3DS, Nintendo recently hinted that a completely new remake is in development specifically for the Switch 2.

Nintendo’s Latest Announcement Seemingly Verifies Ocarina of Time Leaks

Although Nintendo hasn’t formally revealed a remake of Ocarina of Time, strong rumors suggest it’s in development. These rumors originated with Nate the Hate, a reliable source of gaming information. In other Nintendo news, Rhythm Heaven Groove is scheduled for release on July 2nd.

This is significant because he also predicted that RHG would come out this summer. If Nate the Hate wasn’t known for accurate leaks, this could be dismissed as a coincidence. However, considering his track record, this successful prediction strongly suggests the Ocarina of Time remake is actually happening.

Since the Legend of Zelda series is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year without a new game release, many fans believe Nintendo will announce one soon, possibly during an upcoming Nintendo Direct, and that it will be available during the holiday season.

Those new to the Zelda series might not realize why a remake of Ocarina of Time would be the perfect celebration. However, it’s fair to say that this game laid the foundation for everything fans enjoy in today’s Zelda titles, and many 3D adventure games as a whole.

Okay, so even though Ocarina of Time isn’t the bestselling Zelda game, that’s not really a reflection on the game itself. The Switch has just sold a ton more consoles than the Nintendo 64 did. Plus, Twilight Princess came out on two different systems, the Wii and GameCube, which split its sales. But here’s the crazy part: almost 30 years after it first came out, Ocarina of Time still* has the highest average score on Metacritic. That’s pretty amazing, right?

The focus has shifted from if Nintendo will remake Ocarina of Time for the Switch 2 to how they will remake it. While they could just update the graphics and make a few small improvements, it’s also possible they’re completely redesigning the gameplay to feel more like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
