Oblivion Remastered Player Jailed For More Than 20 Million Days

Summary

  • No matter how moral you are, we’ve all spent at least a little time in Cyrodil’s many jails.
  • One player has taken that to the extreme by racking up a bounty of over two billion.
  • You don’t even want to know how many days locked up that results in.

An especially cunning player of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered discovered the consequences when one accumulates a bounty surpassing 2 billion septims and ends up in jail.

It’s likely that if you’ve played Oblivion (or any other Elder Scrolls game), you’ve spent some time in jail at least once, beyond your initial incarceration during the prologue. This could be due to pickpocketing items you shouldn’t have or unintentionally killing someone in broad daylight. It’s fair to assume that many players have found themselves in jail on more than one occasion.

In Oblivion, the duration of your imprisonment is determined by the size of your bounty, which increases when you commit illegal acts such as pickpocketing, murder, assault, or even trespassing. Generally, it doesn’t extend for a long time, but one player has managed to stretch their jail term to extraordinary lengths.

If You Don’t Want To Spend 20 Million Days In Oblivion Jail, Don’t Steal More Than A Million Items

A 2 Billion Bounty Has A Unsurprisingly Hefty Cost

On the Oblivion subreddit, user Scribe_Of_Satire shared that they accumulated a staggering bounty of more than two billion septim before being imprisoned. Their criminal history shows that this massive sum was primarily amassed by stealing over one million items throughout Cyrodiil, and also by stealing from someone just once. It seems that single theft could have been the pivotal moment.

Such an immense reward (admittedly, it appears implausible to me without some sort of mod or enhancement) led Scribe_Of_Satire being imprisoned for over 20 million days, which is roughly equivalent to 54,757 years. Regardless of the Hero of Kvatch’s power, I find it hard to believe they didn’t simply decay in that cell without managing to close the gates of Oblivion.

Even if they successfully sealed the Oblivion gates, Cyrodiil appears to be akin to Starfield following such a passage of time.

After spending a considerable amount of time in prison, it appears little has changed for the character, as they are depicted exiting jail without any noticeable issues in another image. However, according to comments, each day spent in jail causes a deduction of one point from one of ten skills for the character. Although there’s a maximum limit to the points that can be lost, the extended stay behind bars would still result in a significant reduction in skill points.
