After much anticipation due to leaks and whispers about its release date, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered has officially arrived! Even though Bethesda Game Studios announced that the updated RPG wouldn’t offer official mod support, fans have wasted no time in getting creative with their own modifications.
Yesterday, Bethesda unveiled the long-anticipated remake and made an announcement about it. The question on every PC player’s lips – will mods be supported in Oblivion Remastered? – was addressed by Bethesda, who stated that, no, mod support is not built into the game. However, this doesn’t rule out the possibility of modding altogether; rather, it implies that the community will likely take the lead, similar to how Baldur’s Gate 3 was released without official mod support from developer Larian Studios, leaving room for fans to create and share their own modifications.
On Nexus Mods, the Oblivion Remastered page demonstrates an impressive response, as over ninety mods have been developed and released – all within a day of the game’s launch. Notable modifications include carry weight adjusters and optimizers similar to Skyrim, along with updated HUDs and ReShade presets that strive to recreate “the colors and lighting of the original” Oblivion while preserving the remake’s impressive Unreal Engine 5 graphics.
Oblivion Remake is infact just as moddable as the original from r/ElderScrolls
It’s astonishing not only the modifications themselves, but also the dedication of modders who are attempting to utilize the 2006 Oblivion’s Construction Set, which is similar to the Creation Kit familiar to fans of Bethesda’s more recent games. Remarkably, they are making it work and a recent Reddit post showcases fans realizing that the “Oblivion remake is just as moddable as the original,” demonstrating their ability to access the remaster’s files using the original official modding tools.
