Nicole Richie shared her pride for her daughter on Monday, leaving a loving comment on her latest Instagram post.
Last month, the actress’s daughter, Harlow Winter Kate, turned eighteen and decided to go by Kate, her middle name, as part of a fresh start.
She recently changed her hair from its natural brown color to a striking jet black, and she’s still sporting the new look, as seen in her latest social media post.
Kate shared a stylish photo on Instagram, posing in a fitted brown dress with a low neckline. She completed the look with her trademark dramatic eyelashes and a playful pout.
Her famous mum was quick to comment on the post as she penned: ‘I love you’.
Last month, Nicole celebrated her daughter Kate’s 18th birthday on social media. She posted a photo of Kate, who people last saw with light brown hair at a public event, enjoying a dinner out.
Nicole celebrated her loved one, @katemaddennn’s, 18th birthday with a sweet message and photo, writing, ‘I love you!’
Richie and her husband, Joel Madden, also shared a heartwarming collection of photos of their daughter celebrating her birthday over the years. The post simply read, ’18 years of you.’
The former reality show star, 44, shares Kate and son Sparrow, 16, with Madden, 46.
In 2024, Richie said raising her kids as teenagers was her ‘favorite stage’ of parenting so far.
Appearing on the Today Show, she explained that she has a very vivid memory of being sixteen years old, and it’s almost surprising how easily she can recall that time in her life.
Whenever my daughter complains about her friends, I always think back to my own experiences – I remember a girl named Laila Heckmath pulling similar things on me when I was her age.
‘I remember first and last names, so it’s fun. It’s wild. And just the best.’
Nicole and Joel got married on December 11, 2010. They already had two children: Kate, born on January 11, 2008, and Sparrow, who arrived on September 9, 2009.
The teenagers appeared on the red carpet for the first time at the premiere of their mother’s 2024 movie, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead.
Talking about her teenagers attending the movie premiere, she shared on Today that ‘the whole family was there, which was really lovely.’
They’re teenagers, so they took it pretty well, but they were glad to be involved and told me they liked my performance. I definitely appreciated that and accepted their compliment gratefully.
Nicole, known for her lively social life in the 2000s, has said she wants to be open and honest with her children about her past experiences.
She told Glamour that they were fully aware of her past actions. She’d always planned to be completely honest with them, and surprisingly, she’s discovered a sense of liberation through that openness.
I wanted to avoid my children finding out something significant about me unexpectedly. I’ve always prioritized being open and honest with them, and I hope they feel they can be the same with me.
