Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor slammed online over flirty Moulin Rouge reunion at Oscars: ‘So fake’

Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor received criticism online after displaying a playful and flirtatious interaction while on stage at the Oscars on Sunday.

Nicole Kidman, 58, and Ewan McGregor, 54, who famously appeared together in the 2001 film Moulin Rouge!, recently presented the Best Picture award at the Dolby Theatre. Their friendly and playful interaction sparked some surprised reactions from the audience.

Before revealing the winner, Nicole expressed her strong liking for all the nominees. Ewan playfully responded by asking if she actually ‘loved’ them.

‘Adored? Would you say you loved them? You know, love is like oxygen,’ Ewan cheekily asked Nicole.

The pair then performed a very flirty skit in which they swapped romantic song titles.

Nicole quoted the famous line, ‘Love is a many splendid thing,’ and Ewan replied with another well-known lyric: ‘Love lifts us up where we belong.’

Ewan gently touched Nicole’s arm while sharing heartfelt words about their love.

Ewan jokingly told Nicole that even after 25 years since filming Moulin Rouge, the word ‘love’ instantly makes him picture a grand, theatrical moment with a falling chandelier and soaring music.

‘Ooh, don’t tempt me,’ Nicole cheekily responded. 

Their display quickly raised the eyebrows of viewers.

‘That may have been the worst pre-award banter in Oscars history,’ commented one viewer.

‘It took me a while to even know what movie they were referring to,’ added another. 

Someone remarked that Hollywood has reached a new low, adding, ‘Just shut and lock the doors. All the praise and affection feels completely insincere.’

‘Is she okay? She seems odd… ‘ wrote a fourth. 

Nicole Kidman turned heads when she arrived at the 98th Academy Awards on Sunday at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
