Nicola Walker’s “messy and “hilarious” new comedy-drama unveils its must-watch trailer

The new comedy-drama Alice and Steve, featuring Nicola Walker and Jemaine Clement, has released its first trailer. The show centers on a close friendship that’s tested when Steve begins dating Alice’s daughter.

A recent trailer revealed that the series features a blossoming romance between Izzy, the 26-year-old daughter of Steve and Alice (played by Yali Topol Margalith), and someone she meets during a late-night conversation. Izzy has recently returned home after going through a breakup.

After sleeping together, the budding couple decide to come clean to a shocked Alice.

Walker is struggling with the fact that her daughter is dating a man significantly older than herself—and that he used to be her best friend. This leads to a strained and somewhat comical falling-out between Walker and her former friend, culminating in a harsh phone call where she expresses her disapproval.

She viciously told her friend she hoped they would fall from a window, impaled by their own railing, and that no one would attend their funeral, all while her friend was trying to apologize with a card.

Steve and Izzy are a couple facing the challenges that come with a large age difference, including misunderstandings due to their different generations.

When Steve meets Izzy’s younger friends, they subtly comment on his age. He tries too hard to fit in and appear cool, but it backfires, making him come across as awkward and out of touch – a bit like the funny, slightly clueless Steve Buscemi character from 30 Rock.

Featuring Joel Friel as Daniel, Alice’s husband who struggles to hide his intense dislike for Steve, Alice and Steve is a new series from Sophie Goodhart, the creator of Sex Education. It’s produced by Clerkenwell Films, the company behind the popular Netflix series Baby Reindeer.

Starting June 8th, you can watch Alice and Steve on Disney+ in the UK and Ireland, and on Hulu in the US.
