The Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow could begin production sooner than people think.

James Gunn’s new Superman movie, featuring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, has proven successful, earning close to $600 million globally. Despite a hefty production budget of around $400 million, the film managed to turn a profit. Critics have also praised the adaptation of the classic superhero, giving it an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Nicholas Hoult is getting ready to reprise his role as Lex Luthor in the upcoming Man of Tomorrow sequel, and his wife, Bryanna Holly, shared a glimpse of his preparation on Instagram. The upcoming film, Man of Tomorrow, will feature an unlikely team-up between Superman and his enemy, Lex Luthor, as they face off against the villain Brainiac. Lars Eidinger will portray Brainiac, a classic Superman foe known for his incredible intelligence and world-collecting obsession. Brainiac first appeared in comics in 1958 and is depicted as a highly intelligent alien robot.

As a huge fan, I’m thrilled to hear James Gunn is back directing and wrote the script! And great news for DC fans – we won’t have to wait ages for the next movie. Supergirl is coming out on June 26th, and I’m especially excited to see Milly Alcock, who I loved in House of the Dragon, playing Supergirl/Kara Zor-El. Plus, Jason Momoa as Lobo? Yes, please!

The upcoming sequel to Superman, titled Man of Tomorrow, will feature a new character named Maxima. First appearing in 1989’s Action Comics #645, Maxima is a complex alien queen and conqueror with a strong obsession with Superman. She believes he is the only one worthy to be her partner and king. Often portrayed as an antihero, Maxima begins as a villain but eventually develops into a hero and joins the Justice League.

There’s been a lot of speculation about who will play Maxima. James Gunn has denied rumors that Ella Purnell (from Fallout) or Marisa Abela (Industry) were in consideration. However, The Hollywood Reporter now suggests Adria Arjona, Eva De Dominici, Sydney Chandler, and Grace Van Patten are the final four actresses being considered. So far, DC and Gunn haven’t confirmed this information.

Man of Tomorrow will fly into theaters on July 9, 2027.
