The BBC revealed the new host of Radio 2’s weekday Breakfast show, just a month after Scott Mills left the program. His departure followed reports about his personal behavior.
The BBC has announced that Sara Cox, previously the host of the 4pm-7pm slot since 2019, will be taking on the main hosting role. She expressed her excitement, saying she’s “ecstatic, honored, and incredibly chuffed” to get the job.
I’m incredibly honored and excited to be hosting such a legendary show,” Cox shared. “Being part of the Radio 2 Breakfast Show has always been a dream, and it feels like a perfect fit for me now.

These past seven years on Teatime have been the best of my career, so thank you to all my wonderful listeners! I hope you’ll continue to listen to me on Breakfast, where I’ll be playing great music, sharing my usual fun, and welcoming some amazing guests.
“I honestly can’t wait to wake the nation up with the biggest, most fun breakfast show ever.”

Sara Cox is used to waking up early for radio. She previously hosted the Breakfast show on Radio 1 from 2000 to 2003. Since joining Radio 2 in 2011, she’s also filled in as the Breakfast show host several times – from 2012 to 2018, and again starting last year.
After almost 30 years with the BBC, Bill Turnbull’s former co-host, Charlie Stayt, departed the program last month. His final appearance on Breakfast was March 24th, and Gary Davies took over the following day.
According to BBC.com, Scott Mills has left the BBC after an investigation into his behavior. A BBC spokesperson stated they don’t discuss individual employment matters, but confirmed Mills is no longer under contract.
After being fired by the BBC, it was revealed that police investigated Mills in 2018 over claims of past sexual offenses. The investigation was closed at the time because of insufficient evidence. However, the BBC, which had known about the allegations since 2017, decided to dismiss the presenter when fresh information came to light.
Through his lawyer, Mills released a statement saying that in 2016, a claim of a past sexual offense was made against him. He fully cooperated with a police investigation in 2018. While the police provided evidence to prosecutors, they decided there wasn’t enough proof to file charges.
Given that this issue stems from an allegation made almost 30 years ago, and the police closed their investigation seven years ago, I hope the public and the media will respect my decision to not comment further on it.
I’m deeply grateful to everyone who has shown me kindness, especially my former coworkers and my wonderful listeners, whom I miss very much.
The Breakfast show airs weekday from 6.30am to 9.30am on BBC Radio 2.
