Good news for Elden Ring fans! Kakokawa Corporation’s Fujimi Dragon Book Editorial Department announced on Twitter that a new tabletop role-playing game, Elden Ring: Nightreign, is coming this year. Developed by Group SNE, it’s expected to be released this spring.
The Elden Ring Tabletop Game Is Perfect for FromSoftware Fans
Founded in 1987 by Hitoshi Yasuda, Group SNE has been creating popular roleplaying, board, and card games, along with light novels, for almost forty years. One of their most well-known creations is , which gained significant popularity thanks to the 1990 animated series produced by Madhouse.
Group SNE has a long history of translating popular tabletop role-playing games into other languages. They’ve worked on titles like the first editions of Earthdawn, MechWarrior, and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. Currently, they continue to translate the Dungeons & Dragons Rules Cyclopedia.
FromSoftware, the studio behind popular games like Dark Souls, created Elden Ring. The game’s story was a collaboration between Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin and Hidetaka Miyazaki, who also co-directed the game with Yui Tanimura. Elden Ring takes place in a brand new, stunning but dangerous world, distinct from FromSoftware’s previous titles.
When it was released, Elden Ring was a huge success, earning dozens of nominations for major industry awards. It ultimately won 45 awards, including many Game of the Year titles from prestigious organizations like the D.I.C.E. Awards, The Game Awards, the Game Developers Choice Awards, and the Steam Awards.
Currently, Elden Ring has a Metascore of 96 out of 100 on Metacritic, based on 86 professional reviews. Players have given it a score of 8.4 out of 10, averaging over 22,000 user reviews.
In 2024, Elden Ring expanded with its first big downloadable expansion, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. This addition brought a wealth of new items to the game, including weapons, talismans, armor, summonable spirits, spells, and consumable items for players to discover and use, and it was highly praised by fans and critics alike.
Although a sequel to Elden Ring isn’t likely in the near future, fans have a movie adaptation to look forward to. Deadline announced in 2025 that A24 and director Alex Garland are officially making a feature film based on the game.
Despite limited news about the movie, those involved have praised A24 as a fantastic studio and Alex Garland as an excellent director when talking about the Elden Ring film. While fans wait for updates, the recently released Elden Ring board game offers a way to enjoy the world of the game.
