Netflix’s New FTX Series: A Tale of Love, Theft, and Financial Shenanigans!

In a most delightful twist of fate, Netflix has unveiled the illustrious duo who shall embody the infamous Sam Bankman-Fried and the equally notorious Caroline Ellison in their forthcoming limited series, a veritable feast for the senses, inspired by the FTX debacle. 🍿

On the 30th of May, the streaming behemoth officially paraded its two youthful thespians, who will grace our screens in an eight-episode extravaganza chronicling the events that led to the spectacular implosion and alleged chicanery of the crypto exchange FTX. One can hardly wait! 🎭

Entitled “The Altruist,” this production is brought to you by Higher Ground, a company founded by none other than Barack and Michelle Obama. Because, of course, who better to narrate a tale of financial folly than the former First Couple? 😏

Julia Garner and Anthony Boyle will portray Caroline Ellison and Sam Bankman-Fried in the new limited series The Altruist.

In a recent proclamation, Netflix confirmed the casting choices for this dramatic romp. The erstwhile CEO of FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried, will be brought to life by Anthony Boyle, while his former flame and Alameda Research CEO, Caroline Ellison, will be portrayed by the talented Julia Garner. A match made in financial heaven, or perhaps hell? 🔥

“Two hyper-smart young idealists try to remake the global financial system in the blink of an eye…only to seduce each other into stealing $8 billion,” Netflix quipped in its announcement. Ah, the sweet scent of ambition and mischief! 💸

Who are Netflix’s picks for SBF and Caroline Ellis?

Anthony Boyle, a Northern Irish actor of some repute, is known for his roles in mini-series such as Say Nothing, Masters of the Air, and the soon-to-be-released Netflix gem, House of Guinness. He has also graced the silver screen in films like Tetris and Tolkien. Quite the résumé, wouldn’t you say? 🎬

Meanwhile, Julia Garner, an Emmy-winning actress, has dazzled audiences in Ozark, Inventing Anna, Maniac, and The Get Down. Clearly, she’s no stranger to the limelight! 🌟

According to Netflix’s Tudum, the show will be co-showrun by Graham Moore and Jacqueline Hoyt. Moore, who previously directed The Imitation Game and The Outfit, and Hoyt, known for her work on The Underground Railroad, Dietland, and Leftovers, are set to weave this tale of woe and wonder. 🧵

“For nearly three years now, Sam and Caroline’s story has been my daily obsession,” Moore confessed. “I’m so grateful to my friends at Netflix and Higher Ground for loving this story not only as much as I do, but in the same way that I do.” A true love story, if ever there was one! 💖

Executive producer and director James Ponsoldt, known for his work on The Spectacular Now, Daisy Jones & The Six, and Shrinking, is set to direct the inaugural episode. Meanwhile, Vinnie Malhotra and Jessie Dicovitsky will serve as executive producers for Higher Ground Productions. A veritable dream team! 🎉

While the streaming service has yet to unveil a precise date for the show’s debut, one can only hope that Ellis manages to catch it before it vanishes into the ether. Sentenced to a mere 24 months in prison, the U.S. Bureau of Prisons estimates that Ellis will be released next year, in May 2026. Talk about timing! ⏳

As for Bankman-Fried, the BOP has estimated that he will be released four years earlier than his original 25-year sentence, thanks to good behavior credits and his participation in prison programs. Who knew that prison could be so accommodating? 😅
