The popular streaming service is greenlighting Minimum Wage, a 28-episode show created by American High. The series is based on their short-form videos of the same name, which have gained over 30 million views on platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram since May 2024.
Netflix has greenlit a new series called Minimum Wage, and it’s scheduled to premiere later this year. The original cast – including Aidan Micho, Grace Reiter, Hyde Healy, Julia Decesare, Luke Burke, Ryan Micho, and Tommy Armstrong – will all return. The series comes from American High, founded by Jeremy Garelick, who is known for films like The Break-Up, The Wedding Ringer, and Murder Mystery 2. Garelick and Will Phelps are showrunners, writers, and executive producers, alongside Axelle Azoulay.
Netflix Goes All-In With American High Shorts
According to creators Garelick and Phelps, the team behind ‘American High Shorts’ initially filmed their comedy sketches using just their phones, in an empty high school. Now, those same performers are starring in a full series on Netflix. This approach – finding talented young people and giving them creative freedom – is what defines ‘American High.’ They aim to create relatable coming-of-age comedies for a generation raised with digital media, and they’re excited to be able to do so with Netflix’s support.
Minimum Wage is a funny new show on Netflix about the everyday lives of teenagers working at a pizza shop. It focuses on the struggles they face with demanding bosses, busy shifts, and the challenges of working in the service industry. While the problems aren’t huge, the stress is definitely real! The series will have 28 episodes, each around 12.5 minutes long.
The new series, Minimum Wage, follows a stressed-out group of young people trying to keep a local pizzeria afloat while balancing school, a demanding boss, and their low-paying jobs. It’s a high-pressure situation with surprisingly small stakes.
Netflix Continues Working With Digital Creators
Netflix has once again greenlit a series based on a popular online show. This new comedy originated with comedian Shane Gillis and has continued to grow with Netflix’s support, recently being renewed for a third season thanks to its success. Other digital creators now partnering with Netflix to create new shows include Ms. Rachel, Mark Rober and CrunchLabs, and Jordan and Salish Matter.
American High is a film studio based in a renovated high school in Syracuse, New York. They’ve already produced 18 feature films, including popular titles like Big Time Adolescence, I Love My Dad, and The Pizza Movie. Across platforms like TikTok and Instagram, American High has built a large online following, reaching over 10 million people and generating more than 8 billion views.
Minimum Wage will debut on Netflix later this year with an exact date soon to be announced.
