The crime drama Capone, featuring Tom Hardy and Jack Lowden, will soon be removed from Netflix. While some called it a must-watch, the movie received mixed reviews when it first came out.
Josh Trank’s 2020 film stars Tom Hardy as Al Capone, picking up after the notorious gangster is released from prison following a decade serving time for tax evasion. The movie follows Capone as he grapples with a diagnosis of neurosyphilis, which causes his health to quickly decline.
Okay, so I just finished watching this movie, and the supporting cast is seriously amazing – Linda Cardellini and Matt Dillon are in it! It’s on Netflix right now, but heads up – it’s leaving on February 24th, so you gotta check it out before it’s gone!

The movie Capone, released quickly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, received mixed reviews. While critics generally praised Tom Hardy’s performance, they felt the film’s tone was uneven and inconsistent.
The film has received mixed reviews, currently holding a 40% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 139 reviews. Critics praised Tom Hardy’s performance as ‘fascinating,’ but found the movie itself to be poorly structured and disjointed.
Despite not being perfect or particularly sophisticated, Capone is surprisingly more engaging scene by scene than many more polished movies. Empire Magazine highlights Hardy’s bold performance as something you shouldn’t miss.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film Capone offers a unique, but ultimately uncompelling, portrayal of the gangster’s final days. However, Tom Hardy’s intensely committed, almost comical, performance is worth watching.
In a review, Rolling Stone agreed, stating that director Josh Trank’s attempt to blend his personal story with a fictionalized account of Al Capone’s final days didn’t quite work, but praised Tom Hardy’s powerful performance as Capone.
Josh Trank, the director of films like Chronicle and the 2015 Fantastic Four, has spoken about the negative feedback his movie Capone received. He admitted he wasn’t entirely surprised by the criticism, but it was difficult to predict how audiences would react.

I absolutely love this movie and I’m incredibly proud of it. Nothing anyone could say would change how much I adore it.
Okay, so if you’re not really into those super crazy crime shows, Netflix still has a ton of other stuff. This month they added a really cool mystery thriller called Searching – it’s done entirely on screens, which is a neat idea. And if you’re in the mood for something a little different, they also added The Thomas Crown Affair, a classic romantic heist movie from the 90s. Both are worth checking out!
Capone is streaming on Netflix until 24 February.
