Netflix is removing Maxine Peake’s BAFTA winning crime drama very soon

Netflix will soon be taking down the 2006 drama See No Evil: The Story of the Moors Murders, which features Joanne Froggatt and Maxine Peak. It became available on March 27th of last year and will be removed on March 26th.

Originally broadcast on ITV two decades ago as See No Evil: The Moors Murders, the show features Lesley Peake and Sean Harris (known from Mission: Impossible) as the infamous serial killer couple Myra Hindley and Ian Brady. Joanne Froggatt plays Maureen Smith, Hindley’s sister, and the story is told from her perspective.

The show’s creators spent a significant amount of time researching the case, including speaking with both the victims’ families and the detectives who worked on it.

The TV drama See No Evil originally won a BAFTA award in 2007. More recently, it gained a lot of viewers when it became available on Netflix last year, ranking just behind the hit show Adolescence on the UK’s most-watched list at the end of March.

Even though it won an award, it’s surprisingly hard to find reviews from critics at the time, and as a result, it doesn’t have a critic score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Viewers have shared their thoughts on the show online, with one calling it a deeply touching story featuring exceptional acting by Froggett, Peake, and Harris. It was a BAFTA winner, and rightly so.

“The emphasis is on the emotional havoc Brady inflicted on those around him.”

One viewer praised the portrayal of Ian Brady, saying he initially came across as somewhat intense but generally likable. His sinister nature only became clear when it was too late to intervene, making it one of the best depictions of a psychopath they’d ever seen.

One viewer praised the film’s excellent acting, writing, and direction, describing it as a deeply emotional, tragic, and ultimately sad story.

You can currently watch the documentary See No Evil: The Moors Murders on both Netflix (for the next 10 days) and ITVX.
