Netflix is growing its business in Argentina by opening a new office in Buenos Aires and announcing several upcoming shows and movies that will be produced locally.
Netflix began operating in Latin America in 2011, started creating original content for the region in 2018, and established its first offices in Buenos Aires in 2021. The company says these expanded offices will continue to support film and TV productions in Argentina and allow it to hire more local staff.
Netflix sees Argentina as a crucial part of its plans for Latin America. According to Francisco Ramos, Netflix’s VP of Content for Latin America, the country’s strong filmmaking history, creative talent, and knack for telling relatable stories with global appeal are key to this.

I’m really excited about what Netflix has planned for their movies in 2026! They’re focusing on creating completely original stories, and it sounds like we’re going to get a lot more comedies and films geared towards younger audiences, which is fantastic!
Netflix has announced a range of new projects created in Argentina, including series, films, and documentaries. These titles are scheduled to launch either later in 2024 or in 2027. Among the upcoming releases are an animated series based on the beloved “Mafalda” comic strip, a short, dark series inspired by a Philip K. Dick novel, and a documentary about the musician Fito Páez.
The streaming service plans to explore what it means to be Argentinian by creating diverse shows and movies that reflect local culture and connect with Argentinian audiences.
Oscar-nominated director Santiago Mitre began filming a new political thriller in Argentina last month, with plans for a 2027 release. In addition, Netflix is developing a movie based on the popular play “Felicidades.”

Netflix is expanding its gaming options and launching a new app called Netflix Playground. This app will offer a selection of games designed for children.
As a big Netflix fan, I’m really excited to hear they’re doubling down on Argentinian films! They’ve said it’s all about bringing fresh stories to life with talented Argentinian actors and filmmakers – people we already know and love. They even talked about how much they’re prioritizing original content at a recent event, which is awesome to hear.
Netflix, headquartered in Los Gatos, California, entertains close to a billion people in over 190 countries and in 50 different languages. A key focus for the streaming service is providing content in local languages – almost a third of all viewing on Netflix is for shows and movies not originally made in English. Netflix offers subtitles and dubbing in more than 30 languages, and some of its biggest hits include international series like Korea’s “Squid Game,” Norway’s “Troll,” and Spain’s “Money Heist.”
This push for global content comes as Hollywood’s local film and television production is facing challenges. Since the pandemic, studios have increasingly looked for cheaper places to film – often outside of California and even the U.S. – to take advantage of tax breaks offered by other countries. California lawmakers are trying to counter this trend by developing tax incentives to keep production in the state and at the federal level.
