Netflix confirms remake of classic ’70s crime thriller with Adolescence director

I’m really excited to hear that Philip Barantini, the director of Adolescence, is teaming up with Netflix to remake The Getaway! The original movie from 1972 was awesome – it followed a couple, Carter “Doc” McCoy and his wife Carol, as they pulled off a bank robbery to get Doc out of prison. It’s a classic crime thriller, and I can’t wait to see what Barantini does with it.

After a risky plan fails, the couple must escape to Mexico. But with both the police and dangerous criminals pursuing them, their getaway won’t be easy.

The film is based on a 1958 novel by Jim Thompson and originally featured Steve McQueen and Ali McGraw. It was later updated in 1994 with Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger taking on the roles of the couple.

Peter Craig, the writer of The Batman, is writing the script for a new project and will also produce it alongside Bryan Unkeless through their production company, Night Owl Stories, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Andrew Mittman will also be a producer on the project, working with 1.21. Barantini and Samantha Beddoe will produce through their company, It’s All Made Up.

There are currently no details regarding the cast, with a release date also yet to be announced.

MGM+ and Paramount+ are creating a new version of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel, Treasure Island. The cast has recently been announced and includes David Oyelowo, Hayley Atwell, Jack Huston, Tomer Capone, and Tom Sweet. This adventure story will follow the journey of growing up.

The story follows Jim Hawkins, a naive young boy whose ordinary life changes forever when he discovers a treasure map and sets sail as a pirate.

Armed with a map, Jim and his mother, Bess Atwell, embarked on a voyage aboard The Hispaniola, hoping to escape danger. They soon crossed paths with the fearsome pirate Long John Silver, played by David Oyelowo, and Aaron Graham, a seemingly pleasant but cunning British spy portrayed by Huston.

Filming for the series began back in March, though a release date hasn’t been confirmed.
