Netflix comedy branded “one of the funniest and most inventive shows of the year” jumps up top 10

The new crime comedy series, Big Mistakes, created by Dan Levy and Rachel Sennott, is performing well on Netflix since its release earlier this month. Both critics and viewers seem to be enjoying the show.

The show stars Josh Levy, who also oversees the production, as Nicky, a pastor unexpectedly drawn into the world of local gangsters. He’s joined by his sister, Morgan (played by Taylor Ortega), and together, the two siblings find themselves caught up in organized crime.

The eight-episode series, starring Laurie Metcalf and Abby Quinn, launched on Netflix on April 9th and continues to be popular, currently ranking at number six on Netflix’s UK TV chart, according to FlixPatrol.

The show has slipped slightly from its #4 peak on Friday, April 17th, but remains popular considering it came out almost two weeks ago. Currently, At Home with the Furys, which launched its second season this week, is the most-watched show.

Critics generally like Big Mistakes, giving it a 79% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 43 reviews. Viewers also seem to enjoy the film, with an audience score of 75%.

According to The Globe and Mail, this movie is a funny, though somewhat unbelievable, comedy filled with Eugene Levy’s trademark humor. It’s a lighthearted escape that’s perfect for when you need a break from your thoughts.

I’m really enjoying Big Mistakes! Honestly, a big part of it is just how great Ilana Levy and Yonas Ortega are together as siblings – their chemistry is fantastic. And I’m always happy to see Laurie Metcalf in anything she does. FandomWire even said it’s one of the funniest and most creative shows out right now, and I’m starting to agree!

The A.V. Club also loved the show, noting that the creators of Schitt’s Creek and Bottoms might seem like an unlikely pairing, but their combined vision results in a captivating mix of dark humor, crime, and thoughtful character development.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Big Mistakes might frustrate you, but it’s certainly not boring. The Financial Times described it as visually appealing and enjoyable, though a bit disorganized.

Okay, so I checked out Slate’s review, and they weren’t quite as hyped as I was. They said it starts strong and you can definitely fly through the first season – super binge-worthy! But they also felt like all the fast-paced action didn’t really lead anywhere, like it was a fun, quick snack that you forget about almost immediately after finishing it.
