Looking for something to watch on Netflix this weekend (May 6–8, 2026)? ScreenRant recommends three new, popular series. Although the action-packed Man on Fire is still the most-watched show globally, a new 4-episode true crime series is quickly gaining popularity in the US, and we think it’s perfect for a quick binge-watch right now.
Netflix recently added two highly anticipated and well-received thriller series, perfect for watching in just a couple of sittings. One is adapted from a classic, beloved novel, while the other tells the incredible true story of overlooked heroes who deserve recognition. Whether you prefer fictional dramas or stories based on real events, these three Netflix series are among the best choices for a weekend binge – you can easily finish them by Sunday.
Legends
The new crime drama Legends launched on Netflix this Thursday, May 7th, and is expected to be a major hit. Starring Steve Coogan and Tom Burke, the series is based on the true story of a group of customs agents who go undercover to take down drug smuggling rings. Tom Burke plays Guy, a character inspired by a real agent who spent over ten years working undercover.
This intense 6-part crime series, set in 1990s Britain, follows brave individuals who go to great lengths – even risking their lives and adopting new identities – to stop a major heroin crisis. Called Legends, the show has received critical acclaim with an 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is currently a top 10 hit in the U.S. Its popularity is expected to keep growing this weekend.
Lord Of The Flies
Netflix released a new series of Lord of the Flies on May 4th, and it’s quickly become one of their most popular original shows. Based on William Golding’s well-known novel – a book many students read in school – this 4-part adaptation is receiving a lot of praise. It currently has a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, though audiences at home have had mixed reactions.
As of today, the series Lord of the Flies is currently the third most-watched show on Netflix in the U.S., and it’s aiming for the top spot this weekend. With only four episodes, it’s a quick and easy binge – perfect for a weekend watch. The show was created for streaming by Jack Thorne, who also co-wrote and created the Emmy-winning series Adolescence, highlighting the high quality of its production. Whether you’ve read the book or not, Lord of the Flies remains a great choice for entertainment this weekend.
Worst Ex Ever
I’m not surprised at all that Worst Ex Ever is a hit again on Netflix! True crime is always popular, and the second season definitely delivered. It came back with four new episodes on May 6th, and it immediately shot to the top of what everyone’s watching here in the US. It’s seriously addictive!
“Worst Ex Ever” shares unbelievable stories of relationships that started well but ended disastrously. Through interviews with those who survived them, along with animated scenes and even police footage, the show reveals these shocking, true accounts of terrible relationships. Produced by Jason Blum and directed by Cynthia Childs (who also made “Worst Roommate Ever”), it’s a captivating series you won’t be able to stop watching when it arrives on Netflix this weekend.
