Neon snaps up Mike Flanagan-produced horror movie Shelby Oaks

Exciting update for horror enthusiasts and devoted subscribers of Chris Stuckmann, the acclaimed film critic: His upcoming horror production titled “Shelby Oaks” has secured a deal with Neon for cinematic distribution. The movie will make its global debut this weekend at the Fantasia Festival, indicating a probable theater release in 2025.

Lately, Neon has been creating quite a buzz around town due to the remarkable achievement of its latest release, “Longlegs.” This chilling and disquieting serial killer film, featuring Maika Monroe as a tenacious FBI agent and an unrecognizable Nicolas Cage portraying the elusive title character, has left audiences spellbound. The box office success of “Longlegs” set a new record for the highest opening weekend revenue for an original horror movie this year, raking in an impressive $22.6 million.

Based on Variety’s report, Longlegs cost under $10 million to produce and approximately the same amount was spent on its marketing. Consequently, it has earned back its production and marketing costs during its initial movie theater release.

It’s a promising development that Neon has decided to support Stuckmann’s horror movie, “Shelby Oaks.” This news bodes well not only for the future of original horror films but also for the production itself. When Riley inexplicably vanishes following the release of her last investigative tape, Mia becomes consumed with finding answers about her sister’s fate. This plot shares similarities with “Censor,” but I can’t wait to discover what unique elements “Shelby Oaks” will add to the genre.
