Nelly Furtado wowed fans with a stylish video posted to Instagram on Thursday, teasing her new song, Electric Circus.
I’m so thrilled to hear she’s releasing a new song! It’s amazing – after everything she’s been through with those awful body shaming attacks that made her stop performing, she’s back with something catchy. It really means a lot to me as a long-time fan.
Furtado looked stylish and confident arriving in a black, strapless leather dress that highlighted her figure.
Oh my gosh, she just completed the look! Those sunglasses? Perfect. And the way she swept her dark hair back… stunning. But it was the accessories that killed me – those sheer gloves were so unexpected, and the jewelry? Talk about a statement! It all just…worked. I’m obsessed!
She looked amazing and self-assured while lip-syncing to the song, announcing on social media: ‘Electric Circus X @boi1da comes out this Friday!’
Five months ago she stunned fans when she revealed she would not be performing anymore.
She expressed gratitude for her 25-year career, which started with her first album, ‘Whoa, Nelly!’, but feels ready to move on to new creative projects and personal pursuits.
The Grammy-winning music artist didn’t directly mention body shaming in her post.
She thanked her fans for the memories, explaining that she’s stopping touring but will continue to create music.
Last January, singer Furtado spoke about the constant criticism she faces regarding her weight, noting that people often comment on how her body has changed since the early 2000s when she was at her most famous. She is 5’2″ tall.
The musician behind Color Theory, who has 13.7 million followers on social media, recently shared that they’ve become more aware of how their work is judged based on its appearance.
For 2025, my New Year’s wish is for everyone to feel comfortable being themselves. Celebrate what makes you unique, and remember it’s perfectly fine to be happy with who you are, or to want to grow and change.
This announcement follows closely after the singer was honored with induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame at the Juno Awards on Sunday.
Although she didn’t win the Pop Album of the Year award – Tate McRae’s ‘So Close to What’ took home the prize – she gave a powerful and inspiring speech when she was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
Furtado shared that she feels like a direct result of Canada’s long-standing support for the arts and culture, stating, ‘I’m a product of that.’
I’m incredibly proud to be Canadian. I live, create my music, and collaborate with fellow Canadian artists – musicians, songwriters, and producers – because I truly believe in the potential of this country. I hope you’ll believe in it as well.
Oh my gosh, Drake actually spoke about her! I nearly lost it! He was talking about Nelly Furtado, my Nelly, and said he wanted to give her flowers, that she’s one of his favorite people and artists ever. Seriously, Drake acknowledging Nelly? It’s a dream come true! I’m still buzzing!
Growing up in Victoria, British Columbia, I always hoped for a better life, and like many others, I dreamed of escaping and finding success. But what set you apart was that you actually did it, and seeing your achievements inspired me and showed me it was within reach.
Nelly Furtado enjoyed watching from the audience as artists such as Lido Pimienta, Tanya Tagaq, Shawn Desman, Jully Black, Kardinal Offishall, and Alessia Cara performed a collection of her most popular songs, including her 2000 hit, ‘I’m Like a Bird’.
In celebration of her induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, an exhibit showcasing the singer’s career will be on display at the National Music Centre in Calgary until February 2027. The exhibit, located on the fifth floor, will feature personal items like her costumes, first ukulele, early songwriting notebooks, and awards.
