It’s fascinating to note that data shows a strong link between enthusiasts of Hollow Knight Silksong and the increasingly popular soulslike genre, which includes games like Elden Ring. Both Hollow Knight and Elden Ring are exceptional gaming journeys, and Silksong has broken records on Steam, causing a surge in sales and even crashing the platform, with more than three million copies sold in just under a week. While some have voiced concerns about the sequel’s challenging difficulty, this aspect seems to appeal to many players, as evidenced by its overlap with games developed by FromSoftware.
Nearly half of Hollow Knight Silksong players also played Elden Ring
As an ardent fan, I’m thrilled to share some staggering figures about Hollow Knight Silksong, straight from Rhys Elliott of Alinea Insight Newsletter. This captivating title has managed to sell over 5 million copies in just a matter of days! More notably, Steam accounts for an impressive 3 million of these sales, and the game’s revenue on Valve’s platform has surpassed $50 million! Incredible, isn’t it?
Beyond the previously mentioned points, Elliott delved into the popular genres among Silksong enthusiasts. Interestingly, these findings showed a significant commonality with the soulslike genre games by FromSoftware. As per the newsletter, approximately half of Silksong players on Steam (47%) also played Elden Ring, nearly one-third (34%) preferred Dark Souls 3, and around a third (33%) were fond of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
In Steam, fans of Silksong also enjoy playing other games such as Dead Cells (which has a 36% overlap) and Ori and the Will of the Wisps (a 30% overlap). However, it’s noteworthy that there is a significant shared interest in games developed by FromSoftware. While some might attribute this to the high anticipation for Elden Ring, being one of the most popular games of the decade, the commonality goes beyond popularity. This is supported by the overlaps found in Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro as well.
As a devoted admirer, I must say that despite Silksong and FromSoftware’s games appearing vastly different initially, they share a notable commonality: an unyielding level of difficulty and demanding boss battles. These games are not for the faint-hearted, as they both push you to your limits. They employ a gameplay loop where losing means losing what was previously acquired, encouraging resilience and determination in equal measure.
If you’re an enthusiast of FromSoftware’s work and haven’t picked up Hollow Knight Silksong yet, I strongly recommend giving it a try. It’s got all the elements that typically captivate fans of Hidetaka Miyazaki’s games.
As an eager fan, I can’t help but share my excitement! Some fellow enthusiasts have dared to delve into the challenging “Deep of the Night” hard mode for Elden Ring, even though the official launch isn’t scheduled until September 12th. Now that’s dedication!
