NCSoft revealed its upcoming magical RPG, Astrae Oratio, which is still in development. Previously called Project AT, the game is being created by Dynamis One, a Korean development team made up of developers who previously worked on Blue Archive.

Get ready to enter a world where magic powers the city

Astrae Oratio is a new RPG set in a fantastical version of Tokyo in 1899, during a period called the Reisei era. Though it appears to be a historical setting, the world is surprisingly advanced, blending magic with a complex system of administration. This results in a city that looks modern, with landmarks like the Tokyo Tower nearing completion.

The story goes that Tokyo was selected to host the upcoming Expo because of the major economic growth it experienced after the war. I also find the magic system really interesting – it’s tied to how many people live in a city and how large it is. Essentially, the bigger the city, the more powerful the magic becomes.

You play the role of a Shunin, an official with the Special District Office. This organization manages and regulates magic, essentially keeping the balance between the land and magical forces. What’s unusual is that the Special District Office was originally created by a secretive group known as the Other Cabinet.

The game features magical battles called Trials of Dominion, where you’ll wield powerful Artifacts – unique weapons that respond to your skill. It’s already looking great, with impressive graphics, engaging gameplay, and five distinct clans to choose from, such as the Minato Ward and Seiran Fellowship.
