Fans of Alden Parker’s team on NCIS are eagerly awaiting season 24. After many years on CBS, the show’s ending in the 2025-2026 television season is a highly anticipated event. Season 23 was a turning point for the series, bringing fresh creative choices that both respected its history and set it up for the future. Many viewers feel it successfully recaptured the show’s original spirit.
When Mark Harmon left his role as Leroy Jethro Gibbs on NCIS during season 21, the show had to change how it operated. Gary Cole’s character, Parker, took over leadership of the team, creating a fresh new feel. It’s taken a few seasons for NCIS to fully adjust to this change, but it seems like that process is almost complete, making season 24 particularly promising.
NCIS Season 24 Is Officially Confirmed By CBS
Given its consistently high ratings on regular television, it wasn’t unexpected when CBS announced that NCIS would return for a 24th season. The show has remained popular for a long time and is now considered a classic, which is unusual in today’s rapidly changing media landscape. Along with the renewal of NCIS season 24, CBS also confirmed that its spin-off series, NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney, will be back for seasons 3 and 4, respectively.
CBS is continuing to grow the NCIS universe with a new series, NCIS: New York, starring LL Cool J and Scott Caan. While details about the plot are still limited, the current 23rd season of NCIS helped pave the way for the new show with the return of Sam Hanna to Navy Yard.
When Will NCIS Season 24 Release?
CBS has announced its fall 2026 schedule surprisingly early, thanks to quick decisions about which shows to include. There will be some updates to the usual Tuesday lineup, with new arrangements for both NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney. The popular NCIS will continue to air at 8 PM Eastern Time, a time slot that has proven successful for the show’s ratings since the move.
CBS hasn’t announced how many episodes will be in season 24 of NCIS. While it’s probably safe to assume the season won’t be much shorter than previous ones, fans are hoping CBS will allow the show some flexibility as it begins a new chapter in its storytelling.
What NCIS Season 24’s Story Will Be
Leon Vance’s death has definitely shaken things up on NCIS, though I’m not sure the show has fully grappled with the weight of that loss just yet. The agency is currently without a director, and I expect we’ll see the next few episodes really explore what it means to operate without someone as dependable as Vance. A big part of that will be finding a permanent replacement, and honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if CBS draws that storyline out for a while.
Mark Harmon’s character, Gibbs, briefly reappearing in season 23 raises the possibility of a full return in the future, though it’s not confirmed for season 24. The show has also been successfully bringing back popular past characters like Vera Franks and Ellie Bishop, demonstrating a willingness to celebrate its history.
