NBC has a history of successful mockumentary sitcoms, including shows like Parks and Recreation and The Paper. St. Denis Medical, one of their latest entries in this style, has been renewed – which is great news for its viewers!
NBC has announced it will be back for a third season. The current season is airing now and will conclude on February 2nd.
The show St. Denis Medical is set in a struggling Oregon hospital where hardworking doctors and nurses do their best for their patients despite limited resources. NBC highlighted that St. Denis Medical is the only primetime comedy on major networks to increase its audience in the key 18-49 age group compared to last season. It’s worth noting this data doesn’t include comedies on Fox that air before or during NFL games.
I’m so excited to hear that NBC is bringing back both St. Denis Medical and Happy’s Place for another season! I’ve really been enjoying both shows – they’re consistently funny and have characters I genuinely love. Apparently, NBC agrees, because Lisa Katz said they’ve been huge successes and are important parts of their primetime and Peacock streaming lineup. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Katz expressed immense gratitude to everyone involved in both shows – the producers, actors, and crew – for bringing these beloved stories to audiences and continuing to deliver hilarious entertainment.
St. Denis Medical Star on Her ‘Optimistic’ Character
The new comedy series St. Denis Medical was created by Justin Spitzer and Eric Ledgin. It stars Wendi McLendon-Covey, Allison Tolman, Josh Lawson, Kahyun Kim, Mekki Leeper, Kaliko Kauhai, and David Alan Grier. Allison Tolman plays the role of supervising nurse Alex in the show.
Tolman described her character, Alex, as representing the challenges within the healthcare system. Alex believes she can single-handedly fix everything and help everyone, but Tolman emphasized this is unrealistic. ‘She wants to do it all, but it’s impossible,’ Tolman explained. ‘There aren’t enough resources, and she’s going to become overwhelmed trying to manage so much.’ Despite the impossibility of her task, Tolman highlighted Alex’s good intentions and dedication as a nurse, noting she truly cares about her patients.
Tolman explained the dynamic between Alex and Dr. Ron, played by David Alan Grier. Grier often points out that he sees a younger version of himself in Alex – someone who was once full of hope and believed he could fix anything. Now, however, Dr. Ron is simply worn out and exhausted.
The second season of St. Denis Medical concludes on NBC February 2nd. You can currently watch the first two seasons on Peacock, but there’s no news yet about when Season 3 will premiere.
