Natalie Dormer was "frustrated" by Margaery Tyrell's death on Game of Thrones

As a seasoned gamer and avid fan of epic television shows, I can confidently say that the death scenes in Game of Thrones were nothing short of masterfully executed, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats. The Sept of Baelor explosion, in particular, was a spectacle that will forever be etched in my memory.

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but compare my gaming experiences to the gripping world of Game of Thrones. In this epic tale, you never knew when the axe would fall or who would be next on the chopping block. From Ned Stark’s gruesome beheading to the heart-wrenching Red Wedding betrayal of his family, and the tragic explosion that claimed Margaery and Loras Tyrell at the Sept of Baelor, death was an ever-present specter in this fantastical realm.

As a gamer, let me tell you that the explosion at the Sept of Baelor remains my most memorable moment from the series. In one swift move, Cersei Lannister not only disposed of her adversaries Margaery Tyrell and the High Sparrow, but also took out her uncle Kevan Lannister and countless innocents who posed no threat to her. It left a sour taste in my mouth that she escaped any real repercussions for these collateral losses, but the scene itself was nothing short of spectacular.

To this day, it remains utterly bizarre. However, despite my affection for the scene, actress Natalie Dormer, who portrayed Margaery Tyrell, the unfortunate character who met a fiery demise, has expressed some reservations about it, or at least, about her character’s fate. “I was disappointed she took that path,” Dormer shared with Collider Ladies Night, “but in the scene, she was frustrated. ‘She’s vindicated in the end,’ Dormer added, ‘It’s just a few lines, but it says it all. She was vindicated and I could let her go at that moment because she said it herself.’

At this stage, Margaery was skillfully playing for the long term. She pretended loyalty towards the High Sparrow’s religious sect, possibly aiming to seize control of its operations while subtly manipulating her husband King Tommen – who genuinely embraced the faith – from within. However, Cersei Lannister, not one to tolerate drawn-out schemes, explosively resolved the issue. I found it intriguing that Margaery sensed danger and attempted to evacuate everyone from the Sept just before it was destroyed, but she arrived too late. I wouldn’t alter a thing about her demise!

If Margaery had to perish, how would I prefer her demise to occur? Perhaps by dragonfire, as that seems fitting, but that implies Daenerys would need to overcome certain obstacles, which is uncertain. This was shared with GamesRadar+.

Currently, Dormer remains engaged, gracing both television programs such as “White Lies” and “Inside No. 9”, and films like “The Wasp” this year. On the other hand, a significant number of characters are being slain by dragons in HBO’s prequel series to “Game of Thrones”, namely “House of the Dragon”.
