NASCAR: Full qualifying order revealed for Talladega playoff race

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of NASCAR watching under my belt, I can confidently say that the YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway is always an adrenaline-pumping event that never fails to keep me on the edge of my seat. The unpredictable nature of this race, coupled with the sheer speed and power of these beasts on the track, makes it a must-watch for any racing enthusiast.

In simple terms, the middle event of the 12-competitor round in the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs is often seen as one of the most unpredictable races, if not the most, among the four races that make up the ten-race postseason.

This upcoming Sunday afternoon, the Talladega Superspeedway, where 23XI Racing’s Tyler Reddick secured a victory in April, is set to stage the YellaWood 500.

At the Lincoln, Alabama oval, which is classified as a superspeedway with its four-turn, 2.66-mile (4.281-kilometer) high-banked layout, there will be no qualifying groups for the upcoming 188-lap race on Sunday. Instead, each driver will make an individual, solo attempt to set their fastest time. The top 10 drivers from these single-car runs will then advance to the second round of selections.

The qualifying order was determined by a four-variable metric NASCAR has used for the last several years. A full explanation of this formula can be found here.

In a different week compared to Talladega in April, the method for determining the order had a unique aspect: The top 12 championship competitors were not considered until all other drivers were placed first. This ensured their qualification would happen last in the lineup.
