Monster Hunter Wilds Sells Over 601,000 Physical Units on Japanese Launch
Monster Hunter Rise has experienced tremendous success in its initial sales, selling more than 8 million copies globally within the first three days. Additionally, it boasted nearly 1.4 million simultaneous players on Steam at its peak. Remarkably, this action role-playing game also saw a successful debut in Japan, becoming the top-selling physical game of the week according to Famitsu, with over 601,000 units sold upon release.
While Monster Hunter Rise’s initial sales of 1.35 million units in Japan are undeniably impressive, it’s a significant decrease compared to the sales of previous mainline Monster Hunter games such as Monster Hunter World, which also sold 1.35 million units upon release.
This week, “Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii” holds the seventh and eighth positions on the charts, having sold more than 9,000 copies on all platforms and approximately 7,000 copies each on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
On the hardware side, the PS5 has experienced a significant surge in sales, largely due to Monster Hunter. This marks an unusual occurrence in Japan for quite some time as the Switch is no longer the week’s best-selling console. The PS5 sold nearly 109,000 units, while the Switch surpassed 45,000 units.
