The Light Bowgun shares many mechanical aspects with the Heavy Bowgun, yet they differ significantly. The Light Bowgun boasts a vast collection of ammunition types, albeit it can only equip three at a time, and it holds its ground among the Heavy Bowgun and the regular Bow.

In Monster Hunter Wilds, bowguns might seem slightly distinct from their counterparts in past games, but if you’ve played the series before, you’ll likely adapt quickly. Initially, the abundance of skills and armor may appear overwhelming, but mastering what complements your chosen weapon will provide a significant edge.

This manual offers a build suitable for both Low and High Rank players, but beyond that, it provides insights into effective strategies using the Light Bowgun. Feel free to tailor your own build by experimenting based on your unique playing style.

Low Rank Build

Among the appealing aspects of using Bowguns is their adaptability in battle situations. They allow for the application of diverse debilitating effects and inflicting multiple types of elemental harm. This flexibility can often tip the scales in favor of success during a hunting expedition.

This build emphasizes dealing maximum damage through continuous attacks using abilities such as Burst, Tetrad Shot, and Maximum Might. If you prefer to customize your gear, there are three level one upgrade slots available. However, it’s advisable to prioritize at least one for reducing the cost of evasive maneuvers.

  • Burst – Provides a damage boost for each consecutive attack on the target.
  • Tetrad Shot – Increases the affinity of bowgun ammo/coatings from the fourth shot and attack of the fourth and sixth shots.
  • Maximum Might – Increases affinity if stamina is kept full for a period of time.

Besides the Stamina Surge that ensures your energy levels stay high, keeping Maximum Might active, this feature will provide you with additional stamina when needed. However, remember that avoiding attacks is still on you – it’s about dodging!

In most situations, you should maintain an offensive stance, except when specifically targeted by the monster. Employing Piercing Ammunition can enhance your offense, as it frequently triggers Burst, thereby boosting the effectiveness of other ammo types and taking advantage of the higher critical chance provided by Tetrad Shot.

Try out different powders and magazines for your Bowguns to find the combinations that best fit your requirements. I tested Pierce Ammo Powder along with a specialized ammo magazine to enhance its performance with Burst and Tetrad Shot.

High Rank Build

With a wider variety of build choices available to you now, you can devote greater attention to acquiring top-tier abilities for your Light Bowgun. As always, aim to concentrate on enhancing its damage potential and skills that accentuate the Light Bowgun’s inherent strengths, such as applying debilitating effects or amplifying the power of special ammunition.

In your hunt, you’ll be honing in on the top talents that make the Light Bowgun exceptionally effective, such as Ballistics, Opening Shot, Burst, and Special Ammo Boost. Additionally, skills like Evade Extender and Evade Window will ensure monsters don’t overpower you, while allowing you to counterattack them from a safe distance.

  • Ballistics – Increases the range of your attacks.
  • Opening Shot – Increases the Bowgun’s reload speed and the power of bullets when fully loaded.
  • Special Ammo Boost – Increases the power of the Bowgun’s special ammo, and the bow’s Dragon Piercer, Thousand Dragons, and Tracer.
  • Evade Window – Extends the invulnerability window while evading.
  • Evade Extender – Increases evade distance.

Before reaching HR level 100, you won’t be able to change your current decorations, so you’ll need to adapt and work with the decorations you already have on hand.

The intention behind constructing this setup is to consistently harass the monster using diverse ammunition options and enhanced damage output. Evasion techniques aid in survival, providing enough distance for prompt response to any incoming attacks.

As a gamer, I’d say if you’re aiming for some additional punch, Burst is definitely a solid pick, but don’t overlook Agitator either – High Rank monsters can be pretty angry! Remember, the best weapon isn’t always the multi-tool, so consider this build as a starting point to craft your own strategy.

Recommended Bowguns

Without a doubt, one of the top-tier Light Bowguns in the game is an excellent choice for your late-game setup. The combination of Opening Shot and Slugger gives it tremendous power, ensuring consistent high damage output in battles.

If you want a Lower Rank character, opt for the one that includes Tetrad Shot as an inherent ability. This will be beneficial at the beginning stages as your choices are somewhat restricted. However, feel free to modify your build later on if you find the gameplay unsatisfying.

In this game, you have countless options for weapons and armor, leading to an almost endless variety of character builds. This means you’ll spend numerous hours experimenting with these builds. If a particular setup isn’t proving effective, consider tweaking it or try out something completely different. After all, there’s no ‘wrong’ choice in a game like this, as you can always adjust and adapt to suit your playstyle.
