Monster Hunter Wilds Could Be Coming to Switch 2

As a huge Monster Hunter fan, I’m getting really excited about the possibility of Monster Hunter Wilds coming to the Switch 2! Everyone’s been talking about Capcom’s other upcoming games like Resident Evil Requiem and Pragmata, but it sounds like Wilds might be getting a big boost too. It hasn’t had the smoothest launch, but there’s a chance we’ll see some major updates, and maybe even a version for Nintendo’s next console!

Capcom finished 2025 strongly with a major update for Monster Hunter Wilds on December 16th, bringing significant improvements and fresh content to the game. Recent data discovered within the game files suggests exciting things are still to come, and Nintendo players might have something special to look forward to.

Monster Hunter Wilds May Have a Switch 2 Port in the Works

So, I was browsing Reddit and saw some interesting stuff from a recent Monster Hunter Wilds datamine. Apparently, people found code references to a Switch 2 version – they’re seeing “NSW2” which everyone thinks stands for Nintendo Switch 2. There’s also mention of an “upgrade edition,” which could mean a big update is coming, or maybe just that the Switch 2 version will have all the latest fixes and improvements. Honestly, it makes sense Capcom would want to release it on the new console. While Wilds still sold really well at launch – better than any other Capcom game before it – it didn’t quite hit their sales goals, and a new platform could definitely give those numbers a boost.

Following the announcement of Monster Hunter Wilds, many Reddit users wondered if the game would perform well on a potential Switch 2. Although the game initially sold well, it quickly lost players on Steam due to ongoing performance problems on PCs. While Capcom has released updates to fix these issues, some fans doubt the Switch 2’s hardware is powerful enough to run the game smoothly. One user stated the game is too demanding for the Switch 2 to handle, while another pointed to Baldur’s Gate 3’s successful port to the Xbox Series S as an example of how developers can optimize games for less powerful systems.

Despite some doubts from players, the team behind Monster Hunter has publicly praised Nintendo’s new console. Capcom shared that they’re releasing three Resident Evil games on the Switch 2 all at once because developing for the system went surprisingly well. Masato Kumazawa, producer of Resident Evil Requiem, explained that Resident Evil Village ran effectively on the Switch 2, which gave them confidence in bringing other games over – and this could also be true for Monster Hunter Wilds. It seems getting large games to run well on the Switch 2 might not be as difficult as expected, and Capcom now has experience to help with the process.

Currently, it’s unconfirmed whether Wilds will be released on the Switch 2, and even if it is, the release date is unknown. While Nintendo fans can anticipate Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection in 2026, it’s possible Capcom could release both games on the Switch 2 at the same time – but this is just speculation. Ultimately, how well Wilds will perform on the new console remains to be seen and will only be known once players have a chance to try it.
