Monster Hunter Rise is just around the corner, set to debut in approximately two weeks for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. The excitement surrounding this release is tangible, amplified by the numerous enhancements, modifications, and fresh elements. Fortunately, there’s no dearth of new information about it. Take a look at 15 key points to consider before pre-ordering Monster Hunter Rise.
Newly Revealed Monsters
After the recent exhibition, the developer has unveiled another fresh monster – Hirabami, a Leviathan that glides about and inflicts Ice damage. It can be found in the fourth confirmed region, Iceshard Cliffs, and appears to move in groups of three, posing more as an irritant for Hunters.
Confirmed Returning Monsters
Absolutely, it’s thrilling to see familiar faces make a comeback! For instance, Nerscylla, last spotted in Generations Ultimate, is back with her web-spinning tricks and poisonous attacks. On the other hand, Gore Magala, who caused quite a ruckus in Sunbreak, returns with its chaotic fighting style. Interestingly, it serves as an apprentice of sorts to Shagaru Magala, the Elder Dragon.
Power Clash
you’ve likely noticed from various trailers that there’s a new feature called Power Clash during battles. In this, both the player and monster are locked in a tense struggle, with you frantically pressing the attack button. Though it’s mainly for visual appeal, if you emerge victorious, you’ll create a brief opportunity to strike.
Strength Levels for Monsters
In the world of Wilds, cracking open my regional map reveals all the diverse creatures lurking about at the moment. When I move my cursor over a specific foe, I can check their Power Rating – yep, you guessed it, that’s an educated guess of their might. As I traverse the Windward Plains and spot an Alpha Doshaguma boasting a 4-star Power Rating, it’d be wise to tread carefully before plunging ahead!
Dialogue Choices
In contrast to other role-playing games (RPGs), Monster Hunter doesn’t have numerous branching paths or multiple conclusions. On the other hand, Wilds is experimenting with dialogue options similar to those in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which were introduced during the collaboration quest for Monster Hunter World. Remarkably, the developers mentioned that they used the latter as a trial to gauge how players would respond to dialogue choices in a Monster Hunter game. It remains to be discovered if these options provide more than just background information about the setting and characters.
HUD Change
In a nod to the teamwork-focused missions found in both World and Final Fantasy 14, an exciting update includes displaying the names of attacks within the game interface (HUD). This feature aims to replicate the intense raid environment common in MMOs, while also providing additional context for the moves executed in Wilds. Moreover, many players find pleasure in seeing their attack names as they execute them.
Radial Menu Improvements
In Monster Hunter Wilds, the customization options have been significantly increased from four to eight, with the addition of a dynamic menu. This new feature adjusts its options based on the situation at hand, such as suggesting the most appropriate healing item when injured. For instance, if you’re slightly hurt, an option for a Potion will appear. In critical condition, the choice for a Max Potion will become accessible to use. This dynamic menu helps reduce the need for cycling through menus and ensures timely healing.
Creating Wounds While Mounted
In the Wilds, fresh wounds act as vulnerable spots that you can exploit with Focus Strikes for increased damage. These weak points may emerge spontaneously during battles when specific areas are damaged, but you can also inflict wounds on a monster while riding them. What’s more, you can annihilate these wounds while still mounted, causing massive damage and potentially knocking the monster off balance.
Sharpening Animations
Back in the day, your weapon would automatically sharpen when you took damage during an unfinished sharpening animation. However, in Monster Hunter Wilds, each movement contributes to the sharpness meter of a weapon. This allows for some degree of sharpening restoration even if the process is interrupted.
Return of Decorations
Good or bad news for those trying to min-max – Decorations are coming back, distributed randomly throughout the game. These decorations have been present all along, and they provide various skill boosts. The developer has confirmed to IGN that they will function similarly to World of Warcraft, with an added option to create single-skill decorations through other activities within the game.
Online Single-Player Mode
During the latest presentation, it was disclosed that the single-player mode initially places you in empty lobbies. But as you traverse through the game, you can select the SOS Flare which will instantly switch to multiplayer mode, summoning real-life Hunters for assistance. Fear not, though, because if you prefer to play offline, that option is still available.
Layered Armor
As a gamer, I’ve found that by pre-ordering or opting for the Deluxe Edition, I can score Layered Armor as bonus items. However, if I don’t have those options, I can still rock the same sleek look when crafting High Rank equipment. Essentially, this is a Transmog feature, altering only the aesthetic of my armor without impacting its stats in any way.
In line with our commitment, we’ve made some adjustments to the PC gameplay requirements while specifying the hardware needs for other platforms. To experience the game at its lowest setting, you’ll need a Core i5-10400, a Core i3-12100, or a Ryzen 5 3600 with 16 GB RAM and either a GTX 1660 or Radeon RX 5500 XT graphics card. This setup will deliver 1080p (upscaled from 720p) at 30 frames per second in low quality. For a smoother 1440p/60 FPS experience with Frame Generation enabled, the same level of Intel CPUs, an RTX 460 Ti or Radeon RX 6700 XT graphics card, and 16 GB of RAM are required.
As a gamer, if you’re aiming for a smooth 4K/60 FPS experience with Ultra settings, you’d best be rocking a Core i5-11600K or a Ryzen 7 5800X. Pair that with an RTX 4070 Ti or Radeon RX 7800 XT, each boasting 16 GB of RAM. Oh, and don’t forget the essential solid-state drive, preferably with at least 75 GB of available space. For those playing at 4K, consider downloading a high-resolution texture pack, but be aware it’ll take up around 150 GB and needs a GPU sporting 16 GB VRAM for optimal performance.
PC Benchmark Tool
To find out if your computer can handle the game called “Wilds“, you can use a new evaluation tool that lets you test different settings for both cutscenes and gameplay. The results will give you a score indicating whether your system is ready to play as is, or if some adjustments need to be made to certain settings based on the performance of your hardware. Keep in mind that the score isn’t an exact prediction of the full game’s performance, but it should offer a good summary.
PS5 Pro Features
In addition to its release, Monster Hunter Rise will also support PS5 Pro, offering two modes: Prioritize Resolution and Prioritize Framerate. The former emphasizes resolution and image quality, featuring ray-traced reflections, while the latter runs at 60 frames per second, utilizing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution for upscaling. This update will be accessible on launch day for the PS5 console.
