Mollie King recalls being publicly embarrassed by Sharon Osbourne during her audition for The X Factor when she was a young teenager.
Leona King, now a famous singer, was just 18 years old and relatively unknown when she auditioned on a TV show in 2005. She nervously performed Etta James’s song “I Just Wanna Make Love To You” for judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Dannii Minogue, and Sharon Osbourne.
The performance didn’t go well, and the singer, wearing a glittering gold top and short white shorts, was stopped mid-song by Osbourne, who criticized her outfit as inappropriate.
After thinking about what happened, 38-year-old King explained to The Times that it showed him a glimpse of how things are in the real world.
The singer came back to the show in 2007 as part of the girl group Fallen Angelz. They performed a cover of Avril Lavigne’s “Girlfriend” and made it to the second round before being eliminated.
Luckily, people at Polydor Records noticed King and asked her to audition for a new girl group. They hoped this group would become as popular as Girls Aloud and Sugababes.
After being chosen to join Rochelle Humes, Frankie Bridge, Una Healy, and Vanessa White, the singer went on to release four albums with The Saturdays and soon became well-known throughout the country.
She fondly remembered having amazing experiences alongside her four closest friends.
Although the group hasn’t formally broken up, they haven’t released any new music since 2013. Since then, King has focused on her career as a TV and radio presenter and is raising her two daughters, Annabella and Lilliana, with her fiancé, former cricketer Stuart Broad.
Just three months after welcoming her daughter, Lilianna, King shared with the Daily Mail that the first few weeks at home with the newborn were challenging.
She explained that the initial weeks were challenging, just as they had been with Annabella. She found it quite difficult to adjust at first.
I used to be in constant survival mode – sleepless nights and always focused on basic needs. But now, I’ve reached a point where I can finally relax and truly appreciate each moment.
I surprisingly found it easier to add a second task than to start with the first one. Having some initial experience and knowledge already made the transition much smoother.
‘I really felt like I knew nothing when I had Annabella.’
Soon after King had her second child, Broad traveled overseas to work as a sports commentator for a major Twenty20 cricket league in South Africa.
She depended on her mother and her husband’s parents for help as she balanced the challenges of raising children.
He traveled to South Africa for five weeks shortly after our baby was born, which was difficult timing. Thankfully, my mom and mother-in-law were incredible and really helped me through it.
It’s been wonderful having family time since he returned from South Africa, especially while I’m on maternity leave.
It’s good that the four of us have finally gotten used to things and are enjoying our time together. I really appreciate how valuable this time is.
Oh my gosh, she gets it! She totally understands how fast time flies, and honestly, it just melts my heart. She said they’ve been working so hard to really savor every single moment, filling their days with fun stuff and just living. It’s so sweet and makes me wish I could be there with them, soaking it all in!
