Four Seasons In, ‘The Boys’ Still Hasn’t Lost Its Edge

Premiering on Prime Video in 2019, The Boys has quickly become well-known for its unique premise. The show centers around a group of ordinary people who decide to fight back against a powerful company that controls a team of flawed and self-absorbed superheroes. The main antagonist is Homelander, and he’s opposed by the determined Billy Butcher. The Boys is known for being over-the-top, violent, and sharply satirical, poking fun at big business, celebrity obsession, and the traditional idea of heroes. Despite all that, it’s also surprisingly hilarious.

If you haven’t already, you should definitely check out the Prime Video series The Boys. It’s maintained a high level of quality for four seasons, with Season 3 earning an impressive 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes – a rare achievement for any show. While Season 4 saw a slight dip in audience approval and marked the first time the show received a less-than-stellar rating from viewers, critics still thought it was good. The season had some standout moments, introducing characters like Sister Sage who changed the dynamic of the Seven, and the finale strongly suggests Season 5 will be explosive. Why Season 5 Looks Like the Ending ‘The Boys’ Deserves

Season 5 of The Boys starts April 9th with the first two episodes available immediately, then new episodes will be released weekly until the final episode airs on May 20th. The final season will have eight episodes, bringing the seven-year series to a close. The Season 4 finale left things incredibly tense: Homelander is firmly in power, most of the Boys are imprisoned, and Ryan is increasingly influenced by his father. To make matters even more complicated, Butcher has gained superpowers by using Compound V. The show has created a very difficult situation for its characters, and it’s unclear how things will resolve.

Season 5 will feature Jensen Ackles reprising his role as Soldier Boy, and fans will be excited to see Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins make guest appearances as well. This marks a reunion for the stars of Supernatural, something viewers have been hoping for since Ackles first joined the show in Season 3. Adding to the new cast is Daveed Diggs, who will be a regular character named Oh-Father. With these actors on board, it’s clear the final season is aiming to be a big hit before the series ends.

As someone who loves Reacher, I’ve found The Boys hits a totally different spot, but it’s surprisingly similar. Both shows center around a flawed hero who has a strong sense of right and wrong, battling against a completely broken and unfair system. They go about it in very different ways, that’s for sure! But there’s something so satisfying about watching them take down corruption, no matter how they do it.
