Miranda Hart shows off her slimline figure after detailing ‘shame’ around gaining weight amid her battle with Lyme disease

Miranda Hart recently shared a photo on Facebook showing her weight loss, after previously talking about feeling self-conscious and embarrassed about gaining weight.

The TV star, 53, looked happy and fresh-faced as she basked in the spring sunshine in the new snap.

Wearing a hoodie from her own brand and a cap, Miranda relaxed on a bench, saying it was a beautiful day to enjoy the outdoors.

In her 2024 autobiography, comedian Miranda Hart, age 53, revealed a thirty-year struggle with health issues that at times made her unable to leave her bed and robbed her of happiness.

She was first thought to have agoraphobia, but it turned out she had Lyme disease that wasn’t diagnosed. This eventually led to chronic fatigue syndrome, also called myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME).

Due to health issues that have caused her weight to change unexpectedly, she has decided to take a break from public life.

In her 2024 book, Miranda shared that she’s proud to have overcome feelings of shame related to gaining weight.

It’s not that I dislike larger sizes, but they just don’t feel like me, and it makes me self-conscious. That’s something I actually discuss in detail.

‘I have found it incredibly hard not to feel shame from gaining weight over the last three years.

It’s not about trying to fit a certain look, but rather because it doesn’t feel authentic to who I am. However, things change – life throws curveballs, and illness can strike.

Practicing self-compassion is a wonderful way to stay grounded. Knowing I’m loved, even when I struggle, brings me peace.

Last month, Miranda posted a selfie on Facebook to let her fans know she’s been having trouble walking after twisting her ankle.

Miranda recently shared that, in addition to her health issues, she’s been dealing with anxiety caused by a fear of going to the doctor or receiving medical care.

I twisted my ankle, so I can’t walk very well, which explains the funny selfie. I’m really tired and need a friend to help me get to physical therapy.

I get really anxious about medical things, so even a visit to the physical therapist is scary for me.

I might be confident enough to perform stand-up at a place like the O2 Arena, but I get incredibly anxious even just walking or driving near a hospital.

For 33 years, doctors didn’t realize Miranda was actually suffering from Lyme disease. They originally thought she had agoraphobia, an anxiety disorder where people become fearful of certain situations.

The star then shared that she was also diagnosed with ME, also known as chronic fatigue syndrome.

In her monthly newsletter, Miranda shared a passage from her book, I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest with You, detailing the most difficult part of her health journey, when doctors couldn’t figure out what was wrong.

The comedian revealed in her book that she had married Richard Fairs, a surveyor, and confessed she felt increasingly isolated because people didn’t seem to grasp how difficult things were for her.

While researching what the scientists had to say, I kept noticing a particular statement: “There’s nothing wrong here right now.” I found that really surprising!

Honestly, it felt so cruel and unbelievable! If someone had casually said that to me when I was completely wiped out, I swear I would’ve lost it. I’d have been like, “Hold on a second!” because seriously, everything about that statement is just… wrong. It just felt so unnecessarily harsh, you know?

I’m really struggling and feeling incredibly lonely. I feel like my future is slipping away, and everything feels wrong. It’s just a terrible time, and I need some space right now. I appreciate you, but please, I need to be alone.
