Millie Mackintosh is considering homeschooling her daughters because they’ve been asking her why they need to go to school.
The 36-year-old former Made In Chelsea star explained she’s been looking into different education options for her daughters, Sienna, 5, and Aurelia, 4, because she questions why she should make them go to school when she disliked it herself. She’s been trying to understand if traditional schooling is the right path for them.
Millie shared on the Mum’s The Word podcast with Georgia Jones and Kelsey Parker that she believes both of her daughters might be neurodivergent. She mentioned her youngest daughter’s very selective eating and clothing choices as possible indicators.
She’s been openly sharing details about her life shortly after news broke of her separation from her husband, Hugo Taylor, 39. The couple, who share children, were married for seven years.
My daughters constantly ask me why they have to go to school. Millie explained, ‘They’re always saying, ‘Why, Mummy, why?’ and honestly, I understand. I didn’t enjoy school myself, so I sometimes feel guilty making them go.’
I started wondering why kids even need to go to traditional school, and immediately began researching homeschooling options. If my kids expressed interest, I’d definitely consider teaching them at home.
You know, I’ve been thinking a lot about this, and I’m realistic about what it would take to actually step into a teaching role. It’s definitely not something I’d take lightly, and I’m fully aware of the hurdles involved. It’s a big commitment, and I’m going in with my eyes wide open.
She tested out a new routine with her youngest daughter because her daycare hasn’t reopened since the holidays.
Something unusual has happened, and we’re still trying to figure it out. Because of the investigation, we haven’t been able to use the nursery. I’m trying to focus on the positive and remind myself that I’ve gotten to spend a lot of quality time with her this month.
I decided it would be okay to homeschool my daughter, thinking we could simply replicate the activities they do at nursery here at home. But I quickly realized that wasn’t realistic because I also need to work.
She continued: ‘There’s been a lot of iPad, not going to lie, while mummy gets work done.’
Millie said she wants to respect her daughters’ choices, but being a parent is really testing her patience – and she feels she’s running low on it, especially when it comes to teaching them things.
She then shared her opinion that both girls might be neurodivergent, pointing to behaviors she considered uncommon for their age group.
Millie, who has previously discussed her own ADHD, recently shared that she believes her alter ego, Sienna, may also have the condition. She explained, ‘Sienna is me,’ suggesting she identifies with the possibility.
As someone who observes people and patterns for a living, I’ve been noticing some things about Aurelia that really stand out. Honestly, based on her behavior, I’m starting to suspect she might be neurodivergent – she exhibits certain traits that definitely make me wonder. It’s something I’ve been carefully considering.
Millie explained that her youngest daughter, Aurelia, is very particular and sensitive, and she suspects Aurelia might be on the autism spectrum.
My daughter gets really fixated on things – maybe it’s just a phase she’s going through as a kid – but she’ll become incredibly attached to a single item, like a specific outfit, and want to wear it constantly for weeks.
She’s a very picky eater, hardly consuming any food at all. She mostly just eats pesto pasta, which seems to be her comfort food. It’s practically the only thing she’ll eat, and the only green vegetable she’ll touch.
The mom of two also shared that Aurelia still relies on her stroller and gets very upset when they try to stop using it.
She explained that her child refuses to leave the stroller. It’s a constant struggle, as the child gets very upset – she’ll have a full-blown tantrum with lots of crying – until someone finally gives in and lets her stay in the stroller.
Millie, a former student at the £26,300-a-year Hanford boarding school in Dorset, has been thinking about her own difficult experiences in school. She now believes some of her past behavior may have been linked to ADHD, which she was recently diagnosed with.
Growing up, school was a struggle for me, and I often felt like rebelling, she explained. She thinks her ADHD played a role in her being seen as the ‘difficult’ child, especially when compared to her sister, Alice.
Millie has talked before about being bullied as a child and how hurtful those experiences were.
She revealed in 2013 that she was bullied so badly as a teenager that she started skipping school.
In a recent interview with Fabulous magazine, she revealed that she was bullied so severely she stopped attending school.
‘I was skinny, had glasses and wore braces to realign my jaw.
‘I had full-on yellow hair after a home dye job and had really bad acne all over my forehead.
‘At school people used to call me names like ‘Sparrow Legs’ because I had such long, gangly limbs.
Honestly, seeing him handle everything with such grace just… wow. It reminded me of something he once said – his mum always instilled this incredible confidence in him. He’s talked about being bullied as a kid, and he figured it out then, like it was some kind of secret weapon. It’s more than just getting past it, it’s a total life skill, you know? It’s just… amazing how he carries himself.
These new details emerge as Millie adjusts to being a mother while co-parenting with her ex-partner, Hugo, after their separation.
Sources say Millie’s personal growth – particularly the significant changes she made after becoming sober in 2022 – created distance between her and her partner. The couple, who had known each other since their teenage years and famously played on-again, off-again lovers on the reality show Made In Chelsea, seemed to grow apart.
I’ve been following Millie’s journey for a while now, and honestly, the past couple of years have been incredible for her. A friend told me she’s finally figured out who she is, beyond being a mom or a wife – she’s really discovered herself, and it’s amazing to see.
Millie has openly discussed her experiences with addiction. In her 2025 book, Bad Drunk, she shares that she started drinking as a teenager to deal with difficult issues like bullying, a sexual assault, and feeling anxious in social situations.
She confessed to secretly taking Xanax, an anti-anxiety medication, throughout her marriage to Hugo. She explained she used it to manage the aftereffects of drinking, allowing her to consume more alcohol.
The reality star revealed she experienced severe burnout about two years ago, to the point where she felt like she was having a breakdown. She described coming home and immediately collapsing on the floor in tears.
After getting sober, Millie developed a strong interest in health and wellness. People close to them say Hugo didn’t share this same passion, which ultimately led them to grow apart.
