The world of Sherwood and Nottingham will be further explored. Following the November 2025 premiere of a new adaptation, the streaming service MGM+ has announced its plans for the future of the series.
MGM+ has ordered a second season of Robin Hood. Lionsgate Television announced that the show, a fresh take on the classic story, will return with 10 new episodes. Production for Season 2 is scheduled to begin this summer in Serbia.
John Glenn, who leads the show creatively, Jonathan English, a producer and director, and Todd Lieberman, an executive producer from Hidden Pictures, are all returning for another season.
MGM+ announced it was renewing the series on February 24th, more than three months after it first aired on November 2nd. The show has been well-received by critics and has consistently performed well, making the renewal expected. This news follows Lionsgate’s recent confirmation that the series will be available for digital purchase starting March 30th.
What Happens in Robin Hood?
Robin Hood is a legendary figure who has appeared in countless stories over the years, both as the main character and a supporting one. Recent portrayals include versions with Russell Crowe, Taron Egerton in a 2018 film, and as a character in the TV show Once Upon a Time. This summer, Hugh Jackman is set to play a more adult take on the character in Death of Robin Hood.
This new version of Robin Hood updates the classic story with a fresh, exciting feel. It still features the legendary outlaw who takes from the wealthy to help the poor, and the passionate love story between him and the brave Marian. This adaptation is a sweeping and intelligent romantic adventure that feels historically accurate, delves into the characters’ emotions, and especially focuses on the connection between Robin and Marian.
MGM+ announced that the first season of Robin Hood was a huge success, ranking among its most popular shows ever. Despite finishing its run on December 28th, the series remains a top performer, currently at number seven in the U.S. according to FlixPatrol.
What to Expect from Robin Hood Season 2?
Season 2 takes the action beyond Sherwood Forest and Nottingham, venturing into the dangerous political circles of England, France, and Rome. This turns Robin Hood’s fight from a local rebellion into a nationwide struggle for the future of the kingdom.
As the Angevin empire crumbles, Rob and Marian find themselves entangled with royalty, and must use the tools of Norman control – politics, wealth, and deceit – to protect the Saxons. Their struggle to survive quickly becomes a challenge to the very nature of power. This season is a grand and emotional story that explores their deepening love, intensifying conflicts, and offers a fresh, dramatic take on the legend, focusing on themes of love, what we leave behind, and the sacrifices required to make a lasting impact.
While MGM+ hasn’t announced a release date for Season 2, filming happened between February and July 2025, with a planned launch in November of that year. Given that production for the new season is starting this summer, a return in 2026 seems improbable. However, there’s still a chance the show could surprise us with an earlier release.
Robin Hood Season 1 is streaming on MGM+.
