As a dedicated follower of the entertainment industry, I must say it’s always fascinating to witness the twists and turns that unfold behind the scenes. Merrick Watts, a name synonymous with resilience and courage, has once again proven his mettle by setting the record straight about his return to SAS Australia.

Merrick Watts himself clarified that he won’t be featured on SAS Australia, contradicting earlier misleading news about Ant Middleton’s confirmation for a comeback on the Channel Seven show.

On The Fox’s Fifi, Fev & Nick show on Tuesday, the 50-year-old comedian clarified misconceptions arising from the Herald Sun article suggesting that he would join the team as a Detective Squad (DS) member.

He mentioned that some individuals had inquired, yet this was his initial interaction with the media regarding the topic as they hadn’t approached him for comment earlier. This was stated during a radio interview.

Initially, I stumbled upon something they had written, and my reaction was, “Oh, that’s intriguing, I wasn’t aware of that before.” Essentially, it was new information for me.

Here’s what I came up with: “In essence, I’m simply keeping my fingers crossed for a call from Channel Seven to confirm the job offer. However, as of now, I haven’t officially landed the position yet; it’s not accurate to say that I have the job.

Host Fifi Box inquired from Watts whether the role was ever a possibility, to which he responded, “No, neither I nor anyone else has been approached about it. The topic has never been brought up.

‘I don’t know how this came about. Somebody’s obviously had a bit of a laugh,’ he added.

‘It’s unfounded, untrue. I won’t be returning to SAS Australia.’

The job of the DS involves guiding the competitors through the training program, then updating Chief Instructor Middleton about their advancement and skills.

On a Friday, it’s said that ex-UK Special Forces soldier Ant Middleton disclosed to NewsCorp that Watts has been recruited as part of the team overseeing the show, thus becoming the initial Australian member in this role.

Merrick Watts will join the team of supervisors (Directing Staff), and he’ll be working alongside me during the next SAS mission, as he was quoted saying.

‘I guess the cat is out of the bag now. We have to keep evolving it (the show), keep it fresh.’

In the initial season of SAS Australia in 2020, Watts managed to clear the rigorous selection process with flying colors.

After completing his time on the show, the radio host shared that joining the challenging Channel Seven program had been instrumental in helping him navigate through his toughest periods.

The father-of-two said he was in the ‘worst mental state’ he’d ever been in before agreeing to go on the show.

Following a consultation with his physician, he visited a psychologist, enrolled in a 10-week meditation program, yet none of these approaches seemed effective for him.

During my chat with Fitzy and Wippa from Nova, I shared that I seemed to be making steady progress, little by little.

As a diligent seeker of solace and self-improvement, I sought guidance from a psychologist, consulted with my physician, and embarked on a comprehensive 10-week meditation journey. Yet, despite these efforts, no solution seemed to take hold. Now, with hindsight, I realize that what I truly needed was the rebuilding of my self-assurance.

Watts said he knew that going on SAS Australia would help him ‘rebuild his confidence.’

‘I feel extremely competent when I’m self-assured. On the other hand, when I lack confidence, I tend to retreat within myself. Preparing for SAS Australia helped restore my confidence, just as I had anticipated.’ He elaborated.

A year ago, I joined this remarkable show when I was at rock bottom mentally. Now, I gaze upon myself, standing taller and stronger than ever before, both physically and mentally, thanks to this incredible journey.

He finished: ‘It’s been extraordinarily good for my mind and my body.’

During an episode of SAS Australia, Watts confessed that the loss of his radio career, which occurred approximately three years prior, had a significant impact on his self-assurance.

For about two decades, my career was in radio broadcasting, and it was incredibly rewarding. I hosted a top-rated radio show that drew huge audiences, generating substantial income for me. It was truly a wonderful phase of my life, but eventually, it came to an end. This was his contemplation as he underwent interrogation by the SAS Leadership Team.

After spending two decades consistently working with radio broadcasting, you grow accustomed to a particular routine. When you take a brief break from this routine, the novelty and excitement sets in, followed by a sense of relief and coolness.

Suddenly, I found myself in a phase with fewer tasks at hand. A pause occurred, and I found myself questioning, “What lies ahead for me? Who do I aspire to be? What is my next move?

Over time, I’ve found myself lacking confidence, feeling weak, and struggling to recognize who I am. This has gradually led to feelings of anxiety and depression.

It was his battles with anxiety and depression that led Watts to decide to join the program.

I’ve chosen to enroll in this course with the intention of transforming myself comprehensively, moving away from my previous self. Typically known as the carefree, easy-going type, I aim to evolve and break that mold.

‘But I haven’t felt that way for a while. And I want to feel that way again.’
