Mel B says her Spice Girls bandmates approve of her husband, Rory McPhee, because being with him brings out the best in her. She recently shared a glimpse into how happy she is in her marriage.
Mel B, best known as Scary Spice, married celebrity hairstylist Octavian Kaul in July 2025 at London’s St. Paul’s Cathedral. The couple had become engaged in 2022.
She recently shared that Rory’s kindness has influenced her, and her bandmates noticed the change during their 2019 reunion tour.
She shared that during the previous tour, the other girls noticed she was much friendlier when Rory was nearby.
He always knows how to cheer me up when I’m feeling down, and his kindness inspires me to be more considerate as well.
As a lifestyle expert, I always say the most meaningful gifts come from the heart! One of the sweetest things I’ve seen is a partner creating a personalized book filled with loving notes and photos, specifically for their loved one to turn to whenever they’re feeling down or insecure. It’s such a thoughtful way to offer comfort and reassurance.
Mel told Hello! Magazine that Rory helped her trust good men again, because he understands the challenges she faces with ADHD and dyslexia in her daily life.
Mel and her ex-husband, Jimmy Gulzar, have a 27-year-old son named Phoenix. They separated in January 2000 and officially divorced in June of the same year.
The actress has two children: 18-year-old Angel, with Eddie Murphy, and 14-year-old Madison, with her former husband, Stephen Belafonte.
She and Rory became friends after her divorce from Stephen in 2017, and their relationship later turned romantic.
Mel explained in a magazine interview that her relationship with Rory feels different from her past marriages, describing it as ‘real and honest’.
Although Mel and Rory have different daily interests – Mel enjoys relaxing and watching TV, while Rory prefers to be active – they understand each other deeply and share similar goals and dreams.
She recently spoke with Hello! magazine following her confession that a reunion with her old band is unlikely.
Mel rose to prominence in 1996 with her bandmates Victoria, Mel C, Emma Bunton, and Geri Horner. The group later disbanded in 2001.
The band got back together in 2007 for a world tour. They then performed at the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics, and in 2019, they toured the UK with their original four members, excluding Victoria.
In addition to canceling reunion plans, Mel also appears to have ended the possibility of a Netflix documentary about the group. She criticized her bandmates, claiming they weren’t willing to be truthful in front of the cameras.
She stated definitively that a reunion won’t happen. She added that if one did occur, she would be very surprised.
Thinking back to the 2019 tour, I felt completely in my element. But I’m turning 50, and it makes you think about things.
Honestly, I learned a long time ago that you can’t force anyone to tour if they’re not feeling it. I made a firm decision about that for myself when I hit 50 – no more pushing people! It just doesn’t work, and I’m at peace with that now.
Mel spoke fondly of her close relationship with her former bandmates, but she wasn’t sure she’d participate in a reunion if one were to happen, even if it was proposed later on.
In a recent interview with Hello!, she admitted she wasn’t sure about reuniting with the Spice Girls. She expressed deep affection and respect for her former bandmates, acknowledging the significant impact they had on her life and career. She shared cherished memories of her time in the group, but wasn’t certain she’d want to perform with them again.
Mel then talked about the rumors surrounding a potential documentary on Netflix, similar to the films made about David and Victoria Beckham.
She notes that everyone has likely been asked this question and considered it themselves. However, she emphasizes it needs to be approached correctly, with genuine honesty – something not everyone is willing to offer.
Mel C has stated that a Spice Girls reunion isn’t currently happening. While the group stays in touch and hopes to collaborate again someday, there are no concrete plans in the works, as she shared on The Smallzy Show on KIIS Radio.
I’m still hopeful and keeping my fingers crossed that the Spice Girls will reunite someday.
A Netflix series about the band was reportedly being developed, but recent news in 2024 suggests Geri Halliwell has put the project on hold. This could mean a loss of £1 million for each of the five band members.
According to sources, a major falling out between Geri and Mel B created so much tension within the band that they struggled to find a manager who could effectively negotiate and get things done.
The conflict started in 2019 when Mel revealed on Piers Morgan’s talk show that she and Geri had a brief romantic relationship during the band’s popular years in the 1990s.
Geri insisted the affair never happened, and Mel was accused of inventing it to boost sales of her memoir, ‘Brutally Honest’.
