The case not only reunites McGee with an old flame but also reveals a shocking secret: he has a son, Matteo, with Gloria. The season 23 finale shows McGee determined to connect with his newly discovered son and build a relationship with him.

Because McGee’s mother, Gloria, had never been mentioned on the show, it was hard to predict where the story was going. Ultimately, bringing this character into the mix is a welcome change for McGee. While NCIS previously used the ‘long-lost son’ storyline with Gibbs, this time the surprise wasn’t a false lead.
