As a huge movie fan, I was pretty bummed to hear about Quentin Tarantino’s recent comments about some actors. It started with him dismissing Paul Dano’s work in There Will Be Blood, which is a fantastic performance, in my opinion. But then, on a podcast, he really doubled down and said he just doesn’t rate Matthew Lillard as an actor. It’s one thing for anyone to have an opinion, but coming from a director as famous as Tarantino, that kind of talk can really sting. Thankfully, the response to his comments about Lillard was amazing – so many fans and people in the industry rallied around him, which was great to see.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kyle Lillard discussed how he reacted to comments made by Quentin Tarantino. He previously stated he was upset by Tarantino’s words, but now explained that the overwhelming positive response to his work felt strangely like the tributes given to someone who had passed away. Lillard is happy and grateful to be receiving this appreciation while still with us.
It felt incredibly strange to experience all the tributes people share after someone dies – the ‘rest in peace’ messages on email, social media, everywhere. It was like living through my own memorial, while still being alive! I couldn’t have asked for a more heartwarming response to what happened. I understand not everyone will like me, or any actor for that matter – everyone has their own tastes. But to see such kindness and support was truly beautiful.
Matthew Lillard Has Plenty of Exciting Roles in 2026

Universal Pictures
Matthew Lillard has been busy lately, taking on diverse roles in both animated and live-action projects. He continues to be the voice of Shaggy in various Scooby-Doo films, but he’s also explored more serious acting, like his small role in Mike Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck. He even made a quick appearance in the video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, hinting that his character might return in a future installment.

In 2026, Damian Lillard is set to appear in two major projects. He’s almost certainly returning as Stu Matcher in Scream 7, the character he originally played in the first Scream film. He’ll also be back on television as Mr. Charles in season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, though details about his role are still scarce. Despite Quentin Tarantino’s recent comments, Lillard’s career is thriving, and he’s currently receiving renewed attention for his work.
