Matthew B. Roberts on what it's like for the Frasers to head home again in Outlander season 7 part 2

As a die-hard Outlander fan who’s been following this captivating series since its inception, I can hardly contain my excitement for Season 7 Part 2, set to premiere on Starz on November 22, 2024. The anticipation is palpable as we inch closer to the grand finale, and with each passing day, tantalizing teasers trickle out about the next chapter of this epic time-travel saga.

The long-awaited second half of Outlander season 7, consisting of the last eight episodes, is set to arrive on Starz on November 22, 2024. As the premiere date draws near, we can expect more sneak peeks into the next installment of this captivating time-travel story.

In a recent chat with TVLine, the show’s executive producer, Matthew B. Roberts, dropped a clue about what lies ahead for the Fraser family, encompassing both the 18th-century and 1970s versions, as well as how Jamie, Claire, and Young Ian feel being back in their native Scotland.

They haven’t appeared since the third season, quite a stretch of time! We can hardly wait for the reunion of the three characters with Jenny and Ian Murray, Jamie’s sister and brother-in-law, who are also Young Ian’s parents. According to Roberts, this is what he shared with the media outlet:

Going home again, it’s tough when you’ve been gone so long. [Because it’s been so many years, the series was able to take on] a fresh start, a fresh, new place for these characters to interact with each other.

It’s definitely difficult to be back home when you’re away for so long as the EP says. So much changes and evolves, as well as the people as well. And someone who’s a bit tough – she is a Fraser after all – is Jamie’s sister Jenny, who’s been recast and now played by actress Kristin Atherton in Outlander season 7B. I’m really looking forward to seeing the dynamic here! Plus, we haven’t really gotten a chance to see Jenny, Ian, and Young Ian’s relationship and interactions together. I can’t wait!

Roberts hinted that while Roger and Buck MacKenzie face trials as they journey through time in search of Jemmy, Brianna will encounter her own obstacles as she must endure alone to ensure the family remains intact so there’s something for Roger to return to upon his coming back. Isn’t that intriguing? There are a few possibilities at play here.

It is possible that authorities could become involved in the disappearances of Jemmy, Roger, and Rob Cameron (who kidnapped Jemmy), as well as potential increase in sexism for Bree due to her husband’s absence, while she looks after their child Mandy.

Outlander season 7B, aka part 2, premieres Friday, Nov. 22, 2024 on Starz.
