The crime thriller Caught Stealing, featuring Austin Butler and Matt Smith (who sports a mohawk!), is now available to stream in the UK. The film, directed by the well-known Darren Aronofsky, received positive reviews when it came out last year.
The story, adapted from Charlie Huston’s 2004 novel, centers on Hank, a once-promising baseball player down on his luck. When he agrees to look after his neighbor Russ’s cat, Hank unexpectedly gets pulled into the dangerous world of New York City crime.
The film boasts a strong cast alongside Butler and Smith, featuring Regina King, Zoë Kravitz, Liev Schreiber, Vincent D’Onofrio, Carol Kane, Griffin Dunne, and Bad Bunny. Huston also wrote the screenplay, adapting it from his own novel.

The crime thriller, which came out in cinemas in August, is now available to stream in the UK on Sky Cinema and NOW. It was added to both services this week. A monthly subscription to the movies package on NOW currently costs £6.99.
Although critics generally liked the film – giving it an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 256 reviews – it didn’t perform well financially, earning only $32 million worldwide despite costing between $40 and $65 million to make.

The San Francisco Chronicle praised the film, set in the 1990s, as truly original and beautifully made by director Darren Aronofsky. They also highlighted a standout performance by actor James Butler, who received an Academy Award nomination for his work.
Little White Lies also commended the film, noting that while it references classic Gotham City movies and doesn’t fully showcase director Darren Aronofsky’s unique style, it doesn’t feel like a generic, commissioned project.

Newsday called the movie a quick-moving comedy-thriller that’s edgy, confident, and surprisingly dark. Sight & Sound praised its brisk pace, noting that the film delivers a twist, betrayal, or murder approximately every ten minutes.
The movie received mixed reviews, with an average rating of 6.8 out of 10 on IMDb. While some viewers weren’t overly impressed, one person highlighted the story as both clever and unpredictable, and praised the film’s realistic depiction of New York City.
