The second season of Daredevil: Born Again recently showcased a thrilling prison escape, which many viewers are praising as one of the best in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As revealed in Season 1, Mayor Wilson Fisk (played by Vincent D’Onofrio) secretly operates a prison within the Red Hook port, allowing him to imprison rivals outside the legal system. While Frank Castle (the Punisher) successfully escaped this facility at the end of Season 1, not everyone – including the Swordsman from Hawkeye – was so lucky.
In the third episode of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, Daredevil attempts a daring prison break at a secret detention center in Red Hook. He aims to free all the inmates, including Jack Duquesne (Swordsman) and Soledad Ayala, who is the aunt of Angela del Toro, the new White Tiger in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Thanks to information from Karen Page and Kirsten McDuffie, Daredevil discovered where the prison was located. He then used a keycard belonging to Alan Saunders, an agent from the kidnapped Anti-Vigilante Task Force (AVTF), to bypass the prison’s security door.

As a huge cinema fan, I was on the edge of my seat watching Daredevil swiftly take down the first group of guards. Then, the tension really ratcheted up when he heard the ticking of a wristwatch he’d cleverly stashed in a crate from that Northern Star shipment. What I loved was that instead of going for the smuggled weapons, Matt immediately prioritized freeing the prisoners, which sparked a massive, chaotic fight inside the facility. It was a brilliant move!

Matt teamed up with Swordsman as a powerful partner to protect everyone. A highlight of the series was a stunning, unbroken fight scene where Daredevil fought through AVTF officers with his batons, aided by Swordsman who used a pipe as a weapon.

Once they escaped, Karen and Angela Del Toro helped Daredevil lead the other prisoners to safety. Karen commandeered a large AVTF cargo truck and drove it through the police barricade to collect everyone. Duquesne then took over driving the truck while Daredevil and Karen quietly left on their own.
Daredevil successfully helped over a dozen prisoners escape, which was a significant victory because they could testify against Mayor Fisk. This boost to his cause was a major step forward for Daredevil and his allies.
Fans are calling the unbroken fight scene one of the best action sequences not only in Daredevil: Born Again, but across all Marvel Cinematic Universe projects.
New episodes of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 premiere every Tuesday on Disney+ at 9 p.m. ET.
Every Prison Break Sequence In The MCU
Cap frees the prisoners (Captain America: The First Avenger)

In Captain America: The First Avenger, Steve Rogers discovers that Bucky Barnes and fellow soldiers from the 107th Infantry Division are being held as prisoners of war by Hydra in Austria.
When Steve was refused authorization to rescue the prisoners, he disobeyed orders and went in alone. He successfully freed dozens of allies, including Bucky, Dum Dum Dugan, Gabe Jones, and others who would later become the Howling Commandos.
Steve became a true hero and earned the title of Captain America by bravely rescuing everyone, even when it meant putting himself at risk. His selflessness won the admiration of his fellow soldiers.
Thor frees Loki (Thor: The Dark World)

After his actions on Earth during The Avengers, Loki was locked up in Asgard’s dungeons. When the Dark Elves and Malekith threatened Asgard, Thor reluctantly asked for Loki’s help. Thor knew Loki was motivated by revenge for their mother, Frigga’s, death, and used that to convince him to assist. He made it clear to Loki that any double-crossing would be fatal.
Thor relied on Loki’s understanding of hidden routes to leave Asgard and travel to Svartalfheim without Odin finding out.
Thor, aided by the Warriors Three, rescued Loki, and the two brothers—though hesitant allies—began a journey to find the Aether and confront the Dark Elves.
Guardians escaping the Kyln (Guardians of the Galaxy)

I remember when the Guardians of the Galaxy first came together – it was wild! They actually ended up getting arrested and thrown into the Klyn, which is this super-tough, high-security prison run by the Nova Corps. It’s where they keep all the really dangerous criminals in the galaxy, but of course, the Guardians didn’t stay put for long – they orchestrated this huge prison break right from the start!
Okay, so here’s the deal with the escape plan: Rocket was the brains behind it, figuring out they needed to hit the watchtower for a security band and some essential gear. Gamora was quick and nimble, snatching a band right off a guard. Quill, being Quill, grabbed a prisoner’s fake leg – honestly, I think he just wanted it. Groot basically bulldozed his way through the other inmates with pure strength, and eventually, Drax jumped into the fray, adding his own brand of…enthusiasm. It was a chaotic, but effective, team effort.
The Guardians of the Galaxy truly became a team during their time in prison, and this experience ultimately formed the close, family-like relationships we see throughout the Infinity Saga.
Cap breaking out the Avengers from the Raft (Captain America: Civil War)

After the big fight at the Leipzig airport, the members of Team Cap – Sam Wilson, Clint Barton, Wanda Maximoff, and Scott Lang – were sent to the Raft, a highly secure underwater prison designed to hold people with superpowers.
The ending of Captain America: Civil War suggested Steve Rogers broke into the Raft to rescue his fellow Avengers, which is why they were able to move freely in Avengers: Infinity War.
You know, the movie didn’t actually show the breakout, but it really drove home how effortlessly Cap used his skills to sneak in and free his buddies – all on his own! It was a cool display of his expertise, honestly.
Bucky freeing Zemo (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier)

In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes break Zemo out of prison in Germany. They need his help to learn about a new Super Soldier Serum and a group called the Flag-Smashers.
The prison escape was surprisingly simple: Bucky just gave Zemo a key card, allowing him to leave. Zemo then easily subdued a guard, took his clothes, and walked out as if he belonged there. He later joined forces with Bucky and Sam to help them fight the Flag Smashers.
Black Widow freeing Red Guardian (Black Widow)

Okay, let me tell you about one of the best parts of Black Widow. There’s this incredible sequence where Natasha and Yelena team up to break their adoptive dad, Alexei Shostakov – or Red Guardian, as he’s known – out of a seriously isolated Siberian prison. Apparently, he got himself locked up by basically bragging about going toe-to-toe with Captain America and generally being a troublemaker. It’s a really fun, action-packed bit, and it really highlights the dynamic between these characters.
Natasha went into the prison while Yelena flew a helicopter nearby, ready to pick them up. Alexei started a fight inside to create a diversion, and eventually fought his way through the guards. At the same time, Yelena caused an avalanche to help them escape.
Wong freeing Abomination (Shang-Chi/She-Hulk)

In She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, it was shown that Wong helped Emil Blonsky (also known as Abomination) escape from prison. He needed a strong sparring partner to improve his skills as he trains to become the Sorcerer Supreme, and the two have a pre-existing friendship established in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Although Blonsky faced consequences for leaving, the scene after the credits showed that Wong actually used a portal to help Abomination return to Kamar-Taj for an extended visit.
Simon Williams Freeing Trevor Slattery (Wonder Man)

Before the events of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, a prison break happened in the Marvel Studios series Wonder Man. Trevor Slattery was held by the DODC, and Simon Williams broke him out by crashing through the roof of the facility.
This isn’t the first time Slattery has escaped prison. The Ten Rings helped him break out at the end of the All Hail the King short film.
BONUS: Zemo freeing Bucky (Captain America: Civil War)

Helmut Zemo deliberately caused chaos to break up the Avengers. As part of this plan, he freed Bucky from a facility in Berlin by using specific phrases that reactivated his mind control as the Winter Soldier.
Zemo manipulated Bucky, turning him into the Winter Soldier and unleashing him on a destructive spree while Zemo himself disappeared amidst the confusion.
It turned out Zemo hadn’t simply weaponized Bucky; he’d used him to uncover crucial information in Siberia, including the truth about what happened to Tony Stark’s parents.
