Rumors about the next Avengers movie, tentatively titled Doomsday, are continuing, and a recent Easter post from Robert Downey Jr. has fans buzzing about the possible return of two major characters.
Marvel’s upcoming December film is generating a lot of excitement, especially with Robert Downey Jr. returning – this time as the villain Doctor Doom. He’s such a powerful threat that it brings all the Avengers together again, with many familiar faces from previous Marvel movies joining the fight.
Although several actors have confirmed their return, a recent social media post by Robert Downey Jr. has led fans to wonder if two additional superheroes will be joining the movie’s already impressive cast.

The actor shared an Easter picture on Instagram featuring his character, Doctor Doom, carrying an egg basket. Fans quickly noticed two details that sparked excitement about potential future Marvel storylines.
The basket contains eggs decorated with the logos of Captain America, Black Panther, and the Fantastic Four – all characters featured in the upcoming movie Doomsday, as seen in the film’s trailers.

Fans noticed two Easter eggs – eggs decorated with the logos of Spider-Man and Doctor Strange – hidden in the background, sparking speculation that Tom Holland and Benedict Cumberbatch might unexpectedly appear in the film, even though they weren’t officially listed as being in the cast.
Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which comes out in July. However, it’s currently unknown if he or Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange will appear in Doomsday.
It looks like Robert Downey Jr.’s Easter message hinted that he and another familiar face might be returning for more.
One fan on Reddit explained that a lot of the excitement surrounding the movie centers on where Doctor Strange and Spider-Man will appear, as they’re key players in the multiverse storyline and important characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The fan also praised Robert Downey Jr. for seemingly giving Marvel fans what they wanted.
Most people understand that Marvel is very careful about keeping secrets, and significant leaks only happen if Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel, allows them.
Another fan pointed out that this post was officially approved. Robert Downey Jr. doesn’t share things online without getting the okay first, and he’s careful not to reveal spoilers unless given permission.
As a huge Spider-Man fan, I’m still trying to figure out if they’ll officially make the ‘Doomsday’ storyline part of the main continuity, maybe by tying it into ‘Brand New Day,’ or if we’ll get some hints in a future trailer. For now, I’m taking the Russo brothers seriously when they say ‘Doomsday’ has started, especially with all the trailers dropping! I’m definitely going to be pouring over every detail looking for clues!
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to be released in cinemas on 18 December.
