Martin Short’s show Only Murders in the Building not facing delays after his daughter’s death

Despite a recent personal loss, Martin Short’s work on ‘Only Murders in the Building‘ is continuing as planned, with no delays to filming.

It is with a heavy heart that I share some incredibly sad news. On Monday, February 23rd, Short’s oldest daughter, Katherine Hartley Short, passed away at her home in Los Angeles. She was only 42 years old, and sadly, her death was a suicide. It’s a stark reminder that we never truly know what someone is going through, and that mental health is something we all need to prioritize.

Following the loss of his wife, 75-year-old Martin Short has canceled several comedy shows he was scheduled to perform with Steve Martin, 80. He also did not attend the 2026 Actor Awards, even though he was nominated twice.

According to TMZ, the popular Hulu series starring him and Martin, along with Selena Gomez, isn’t being filmed right now.

Filming for the next season won’t begin for a few months, as it’s scheduled to take place in London, according to a source.

The upcoming production schedule has not been affected by Katherine’s death, the insider said.

The show was renewed for a sixth season in October 2025.

Only Murders in the Building is about three neighbors in New York City – named Short, Martin, and Gomez – who become friends through their shared love of true-crime podcasts.

They take it upon themselves to solve murders within their building. Each season features a fresh case with a new victim and a new group of people to investigate.

Steve Martin stars as Oliver Putnam, a theater director, while Selena Gomez plays the clever Mabel Mora and Martin Short portrays Charles-Haden Savage, a retired actor.

Despite being up for two awards, Short didn’t attend Monday’s 32nd Annual Actor Awards, which used to be called the SAG Awards.

It was confirmed that Short wouldn’t be at the ceremony when Jenna Ortega started announcing the nominees for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series.

Short was up for the award with Adam Brody (Nobody Wants This), Ted Danson (Inside Man), and Seth Rogen and Ike Barinholtz, who both appear in The Studio.

When the other nominees’ names were announced, cameras immediately focused on them in the audience. However, when Short’s name was called, only a pre-recorded photo of him appeared on the screen.

Seth Rogen ended up winning the award. However, Martin Short was also nominated for an award – Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series – along with his “Only Murders In The Building” co-stars Martin and Gomez.

None of the three main actors from the show were able to accept the award. Martin and Gomez joined Steve Short in boycotting the ceremony, according to People magazine.

Oh my gosh, remember when Jason Short finally got the Emmy for Best Actor in a Comedy? I was screaming! And it wasn’t just him – the whole cast won for Best Ensemble too! It was the best night ever, seriously. They deserved it so much!

Steve Martin and Martin Short were scheduled to perform their comedy show, “The Best of Steve Martin and Martin Short,” this weekend in Milwaukee and Minneapolis.

However, both venues announced on Tuesday that the shows have been postponed.

Pabst Theater Group announced that the Steve Martin and Martin Short show originally planned for February 27th in Milwaukee has been postponed due to unexpected issues.

Your tickets will be valid for the new date once it’s been rescheduled. We’ll reach out with updates as soon as we have them.

Short and Martin have also rescheduled their October 10th show at The Fabulous Fox Theatre in St. Louis, Missouri.

They also have concerts planned for March, April, and September, and those haven’t been canceled yet.

It was heartbreaking to hear about Steve Martin’s friend, Short’s, loss – his daughter Katherine tragically took her own life. Naturally, everyone rallied around him. I know Martin, and along with their ‘Only Murders in the Building’ costar, Meryl Streep, they were immediately there to offer support and comfort during this incredibly difficult time. It just shows how important close friendships are when life throws you these kinds of curveballs.

After the tragic loss of his daughter, a spokesperson for Short released a statement confirming Katherine Hartley Short’s passing. The family is heartbroken and has asked for privacy during this difficult time. Katherine will be fondly remembered for her kindness and the happiness she shared with everyone.

Police confirmed that Katherine hadn’t been in contact with anyone for a full day before her friend reported her missing last week.

Detectives investigating Katherine’s death have determined that no crime was involved, according to law enforcement sources.

Katherine was a licensed clinical social worker with a master’s degree from USC, and she dedicated her time to helping people through a mental health charity.

The last time she was seen in public with her father was at her 40th birthday party in 2023. The celebration took place at Grand Master Recorders in Hollywood and was attended by several well-known guests, including Catherine O’Hara, Bo Welch, Joni Mitchell, Kurt Russell, and Goldie Hawn.
